Martin OM Jeff Daniels Guitar

Martin comes up with their latest custom artist edition guitar – the OM Jeff Daniels, based on the artist’s modified Martin C-2 Archtop.

Martin OM Jeff Daniels Guitar

This Custom Artist Edition guitar is based on Daniel’s 1934 Martin C-2 Archtop that had its soundboard replaced with Adirondack spruce.

This new soundboard essentially transformed the Martin C-2 Archtop into an Orchestra Model. It became Daniels main guitar in 2001, both in the studio and on stage. And now, it served as the template for the Martin OM Jeff Daniels Custom Artist Edition guitar.

Aside from following the tonewoods and appointments of his original guitar, Daniel also suggested some unique accents which were implemented on the design of his signature model. The back and sides of the guitar are made from rare Madagascar rosewood, while the top features Adirondack spruce reinforced with 1⁄4-inch scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing.

The guitar features a modified V neck with a long diamond volute, carved from genuine mahogany. Both the fingerboard and belly bridge are made from solid black ebony.

The guitar features a cool 1932 era shaded finish instead of the usual natural look. The finish is matched with cool looking diamond and square pattern fretboard abalone pearl inlays, while the 12th fret features a happy/sad theatrical mask inlay. The headplate is made of Madagascar rosewood which becomes the backdrop for a “Golden Era” style CF Martin logo in abalone pearl which closely resembles the one found on Daniels’ C-2.

The guitar has a scale length of 25.4″ and has a total of 20 frets. It comes with Waverly Nickel 4060 Butterbean knobs and a Delmar Tortoise pickguard.

Jeff Daniels was quoted saying: “My new OM looks great and it has terrific balance all the way up the fretboard, I’m noticing a solid low end that my original 1934 C-2 seems to lack. I remember striving for that element when we were specing it out, so mission accomplished! I’ve passed it around among several guitar playing crew members on set and everyone is impressed with the sound right out of the box – acoustic guitar heaven.”

Aside from acting, Jeff Daniels had a passion for music which he made public with five albums composed of mostly self-written songs. He also did occasional tours to support these albums.

Dick Boak, the Director of Museum and Archives, Special Projects for Martin Guitar had this to say: “I am the lucky soul that got to work directly with Jeff Daniels over the past few years on this great little Orchestra Model guitar. Like a Pegasus, it was reborn from an old 1934 Martin C-2 archtop into a stunning fingerstyle instrument. There are so many songs and stories buried inside this model, but the best part for me is getting to know this amazing person. Thank you Jeff!”

Every Martin OM Jeff Daniels guitar is packaged with a vintage-inspired Geib style case and bears a distinctive interior label that is personally signed by Jeff Daniels and numbered in sequence.
