Breedlove introduces Limited Edition Oregon Series guitar with native Myrtlewood for the top, back and sides.

Breedlove Oregon LTD Myrtlewood

This premium guitar feature exotic Myrtlewood, harvested from a special tree that only grows within SW Oregon and NW California.

Being based in Oregon, Breedlove’s way of building guitars is not exempted from the influence of the area’s breathtaking scenery, which includes mountains, coastlines, deserts and lush forests. This resulted in the company’s distinct earthy aesthetics, which they apply on virtually all their instruments.

Now Breedlove is taking the Oregon influence a step further by utilizing Myrtlewood, a locally sourced wood that’s unique to their area. It comes from Myrtlewood tree which is indigenous to the Northwest region, and known to flourish in the harsh pacific climate. Because these trees have to survive various weather changes, no single Myrtlewood has the same growth pattern and as such each one is truly unique.

This characteristic variance is bad news for mass producers who want to produce guitars that look and sound the same, but it is ideal for builders who are looking to create one-of-a-kind instruments.

Breedlove describes Myrtlewood as a versatile type of wood, with characteristics sitting in between Maple and Rosewood. This hybrid voicing makes it ideal for use on back and sides of acoustic guitars, but the company went beyond the norm this time, allowing the technician to , and so they utilized solid Myrtlewod for further emphasize the wood’s elegant grains and subtly different tonality.

Breedlove Brand Manager Colin Besancon adds, “Myrtlewood is a phenomenal tonewood to have at our disposal – because the wood is visually stunning and every piece is unique, the tone is a luthier’s dream. In short, tonally, if rosewood and maple were to have a baby, it would be Myrtlewood. You get all of the accentuated clarity in the high notes without the chime as well as the dynamic presence in the low end.”
