ESP Tombstone Acoustic-Electric Guitars – NAMM 2015

ESP is debuting an entire new product line in 2015, the Tombstone acoustic-electric series, featuring their brand of edgy design and fast playability mixed with traditional building.

According to the company, these new acoustic-electric instruments are meant to overtake other guitars or basses in their price range in terms of quality, with their shred-friendly style and feel being the new line’s distinct feature.

This is an interesting move from ESP, continuing their expansion efforts into the acoustic guitar market, adding to the multitude of new models that they are about to unveil at the upcoming 2015 NAMM Show. The new line of instruments that they have slated for this year includes 40th limited edition models, signature models and various other electric guitars and basses.

Like their electric guitars, the Tombstone line will feature modern components like GraphTech nut and saddle. They will also all have a dovetail set-neck joint that are designed to handle the punishment that rock players are expected to dish out. Complementing the guitar’s fast playing neck feel is the use of smooth satin finish on the back of the neck of most of the models.

The Tombstone line starts off big with quite a number of new models, including seven acoustic-electric variations and even an acoustic-electric bass. Heading the lineup are two auditorium shape/size guitar with a solid Sitka spruce tops, the Tombstone A-300E and A-430E. The more affordable A-300E offers mahogany back and sides in a Black finish, and a B-Band T-35 preamp with onboard tuner. The premium model A-430E has rosewood back and sides in Natural Gloss finish, with a Fishman Isys+ preamp with onboard tuner.

If you are looking for something louder and more familiar, i.e. the dreadnought shape, then you’d be interested with the Tombstone D-320E and D-430E. The D-320E gives off a different sonic flavor and look with its solid red cedar top and ovangkol back and sides in Natural Satin finish. The D-430E on the other hand is the more classic model, with a solid Sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides in Natural Gloss finish, gold hardware, and a Fishman Isys+ preamp.

Two jumbo-sized acoustic models are also available, both featuring solid Sitka spruce tops – the Tombstone J-310E and J-430E. The J-310E offers sapelle back and sides in Natural Satin finish, while the J-430E offers more premium features including rosewood back and sides in Natural Gloss finish.

On top of the six new acoustic guitars, ESP introduces the first signature model in the Tombstone line – the George Lynch GL-J2E. It comes with flamed maple back and sides, and a solid spruce top wrapped in vintage style Tobacco Sunburst finish. A special feature of this signature model is its 5-piece maple/walnut neck with a rosewood fretboard, designed to improve reliability and durability. It also comes equipped with a Fishman Presys+ preamp for plugging in.

Finally, the Tombstone line also offers a jumbo-sized acoustic-electric bass, the JB-320E. It features a solid red cedar top, ovangkol back and sides, and the a Fishman Presys+ preamp system.
