Fender introduces the CD-140S VA acoustic guitar, featuring a hinged neck that lets you fold the guitar for easy storage.

Guitarists that often travel will see the benefit of this foldable design, it will let you carry a full sized acoustic guitar to locations where regular ones can’t – i.e. inside airline overhead compartments!

Folding guitars is not an entirely new concept, the most prominent manufacturer that showcased this design was Voyage-Air. Now it seems that Fender has made a deal with them, utilizing their patented hinged neck design on two new acoustic guitar models – the CD-140S VA and the CD-60 VA.

These new acoustic guitars follow the same body plan and specs. They share the same mahogany neck, scale length of 25.3″, fingerboard radius of 11.81″, and nut width of 1.625″. The guitars also come with same 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The CD-140S VA is the more expensive model featuring a solid spruce top and added eye candies, while the CD-60 VA is stripped down to make it more budget friendly.

If not for its folding neck, the CD-140S VA is a straightforward dreadnought with traditional design, a combination of solid spruce top and mahogany for the back and sides. The body features quartersawn standard “X” bracing that keeps it sturdy and improves the instruments sound projection.

Other features of the CD-140S VA include a mother-of-pearl rosette, tortoiseshell pickguard, rosewood bridge with synthetic bone saddle and white with black-dot bridge pins.

The CD-60 VA comes with a more down-to-earth set of features, including laminated spruce top with mahogany back and sides, and neck made from mahogany. It does have the same quartersawn standard “X” bracing to give it good projection and stability.

Wrapping up the features of the CD-60 VA are the black pickguard, black body and neck binding, and a white pearloid rosette. It shares many of the same hardware as the flagship model, including the rosewood bridge with synthetic bone saddle and the white with black-dot bridge pins.

Both guitars come with a specially designed gig-bag that looks more like a backpack. Check out the demo video below:

The CD-140S VA has an MSRP of $1099.99, while the CD-60 VA is priced at $999.99. You can visit Fender for the complete specifications.
