The P-03M model comes with a parlor-size body while the OM-03M has an OM body shape, both instruments are built in the company’s US-based facility.
Mahogany tops are not as popular as spruce tops, but they do satisfy the need of many guitar players that are looking for warm and deep acoustic tones. Mahogany topped guitars also work well as a second guitar to pair with conventional spruce topped acoustics.
Although considered as a smaller market, acoustic guitar manufacturers still maintain a small number of mahogany topped acoustic models to stay relevant and to provide us guitarists with more options. These two new models show how Larrivée Guitars went a step further by releasing guitars that are built using all-solid mahogany wood.
The press release says, “The all-Mahogany combination delivers a stunningly warm and balanced tone across the register with superb dynamics and sustain.”
The P-03M guitar’s compact parlor-size body is based on traditional specs, while the OM-03M has a 12 fret design where the neck joins the body at the 12th fret. According to the company, this aids the balanced tone andf Jean Larrivée himself commented, “It just sounds better”.
Both guitars follow the specifications of other Larrivee 03 Series models, and this includes having solid mahogany back and sides, single piece mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, ebony bridge and solid maple binding.
The smaller P-03M model comes with a smaller scale length of 24″ while the other all-mahogany model has a 25.5″ scale length, just like the regular OM-03 model. Both guitars have the same nut width of 1.75″ and fretboard radius that goes from 17″ to 21″ compound.
Other features found on both models include Symmetrical Parabolic X-Bracing, Hand fit Dovetail Neck Joint, Rounded Larrivee headstock, Multi-strip rosette, Ping Tuners w/ 18:1 Ratio, Ivoroid Fretboard Binding, Beveled Tortis pickguard and Microdot Fretboard Markers.
Both the P-03M and OM-03M are now available in the UK with a retail price of around £999 and £1099M respectively. Each guitar comes with a luxury Larrivée hard shell case. More information will soon be available at
