Railhammer Billy Corgan Signature Pickup

Railhammer introduces the new Billy Corgan signature pickup, a modded P90 style pickup without the hum. Related Feature:Reverend Billy Corgan Signature BC-1 This new pickup is part of the company’s new Humcutter Series, where traditional tones are reproduced without the noise issues that they are plagued with. This one is crafted to meet the musical needs of the Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman and guitarist. Being a signature model, this pickup is co-designed by Billy Corgan himself and it was featured on his recently released signature guitar from Reverend. With this pickup released, you can now have Corgan approved tones on your preferred humbucker equipped guitar. According to the press release, “This design combines the clarity and articulation of a P90, with the thick tone and low noise of a humbucker“. It is described by Billy as having a subtle midrange bump that adds extra weight and punch to each note much like having a wah cocked into its sweet spot. Even with heavy distortion or fuzz, the pickup allows your articulation and dynamics to still shine through. Since it is using Railhammer’s patent pending hybrid rail and large pole design, the wound strings are captured by a thin rail that results

Railhammer Gnarly 90 Pickup

Railhammer expands their humbucker pickup series with the new Gnarly 90 pickup, based on P90 pickups. Related Feature:Guitar Pickups Explained This new pickup mixes Railhammer’s distinctive rail and pole pickup design to a vintage P90 build, resulting in a pickup with vintage tones and modern punch. The Gnarly 90 is designed to carefully reproduce the tone of vintage P90s, Railhammer used 44-gauge wire and dual alnico 5 magnets to get the sound as close as they possibly can. The tone signature is described as having “the lower mid whine and raw attack typical of a classic P90”. They also made sure that the pickup fits perfectly on standard humbucker equipped guitars. The new pickup is available in bridge and neck versions especially designed for each position. The bridge model has more windings for added “gnarl”, while the neck pickup has reduced windings for improved note clarity. The neck is reverse wound/reverse polarity so it’s hum-canceling when used together with the bridge pickups. Like the other Railhammer pickups, Gnarly 90 features thin rails under the thicker strings. These rails allow the pickup to “sense a narrow section of string, producing a tight, clear tone”. The large poles under the plain strings

Railhammer Bob Balch Signature Pickups

Railhammer introduces new signature humbucker pickup co-designed by Fu Manchu guitarist Bob Balch. Related Feature:Railhammer Chisel Neck Pickup This new pickup follows the design of the Chisel model with some important distinctions, most notably the cover and baseplate are brass. According to Railhammer, brass was used because it reduces output and treble, while enhancing the overall midrange. The resulting tone is referred to as thick with excellent quality that cuts through even with fuzz. In clean settings, the pickup is also a bit warmer sounding and is said to articulate the nuances of your playing better. The pickups produce tonal characteristics that Bob Balch himself prefers when playing the part of the riffmeister for his band. This new signature pickup comes in pairs, with the neck pickup version having reduced output for increased clarity and tone, as well as good volume balance with the bridge version. According to the official press release, “This pickup is designed for stoner rock, fuzz metal, post-Sabbath, or for any player looking for a unique combination of clarity and warm midrange.” Check out Bob Balch as he tests his prototype Reverend signature guitar that comes loaded with his signature pickup. Like the other Railhammer pickups,

Railhammer Alnico Grande Pickup

Railhammer expands their pickup line with the new Alnico Grande pickup, voiced to cover the in-betweens of vintage and modern sounding pickups. Related Feature:Railhammer Hyper Vintage Chrome Because of the use of alnico 5 magnet, this pickup is described to have a warm tone that has some light compression. However, it is wound to be hotter than vintage humbuckers which give it a rounder, thicker sound with more sustain. This pickup offers a nice compromise for players who want the dynamics and feel of vintage pickups, but want the pickups to have more grit like modern humbuckers. The company extrapolates, ““Perfect for the player who wants higher output and fatter tone than Railhammer’s Hyper Vintage model, but prefers a less aggressive upper-mid/treble attack than the Chisel or Anvil models”. Like all Railhammer pickups, the Alnico Grande features the company’s unique combination of rail and pole piece magnet design. This makes the pickup look different from conventional humbuckers, and the difference is not just skin deep. The use of rail and pole in a single pickup is the brain child of Joe Naylor and his team. The idea behind it is that using rails under the wound strings will produce tighter

Orange OB1-K Bass Amp

Orange Amplification introduce the new 1000 Watt solid-state OB1-K bass amplifier, their first ever rack-mountable amplifier. Related Feature:Portable Bass Amps! To meet the demands of modern bass players, Orange utilized a bi-amp circuit that spits the signal into two separate paths to ensure that the lower and higher frequencies are properly represented. Looks like Orange finally gave in to requests and decided to create a rack friendly bass amp head. This means that the amp is easier to integrate into your existing rack, making it an easy pick for bassists that require good tone and reliability. An optional sleeve mounting is available for those that want to have the original Orange look. In designing this amp, Orange was inspired by bi-amped rigs that run their bass guitar signal through a bass and guitar amp at the same time. They then worked on including this signal path splitting capability into a single amp package – the end result of which is the OB1-K. The OB1-K splits your bass signal into two separate paths. One side takes care of the low frequencies, producing what Orange Amps describe as tight, clean and beefy low ends. The second signal path covers the higher frequencies

Peavey 6505 MH Micro Head – Summer NAMM 2015

Peavey Electronics expand their popular all-tube amplifier line with the new compact 6505 MH Micro Head. Related Feature:Affordable Tube Amps This newest addition to the 6505 series is designed to bring the same celebrated tone as the original Peavey 5150 in a smaller and more portable package. The 6505 is essentially the same amp as the Eddie Van Halen signature 5150, with the only difference being the model name because EVH took the label 5150 for himself when he started his own company. Peavey decided to continue producing the 5150 under a different name, the 6505, and up to this day it continue to be widely used in rock and metal recordings. Peavey has since been improving on the 6505 design, enhancing reliability, connectivity and adding tone shaping features, while maintaining the same core voicing that shred, metal and rock players find appealing. The latest to come out from this amplifier line is the 6505 MH, a 20 Watt portable version that is meant to compete with other “micro” amp heads that has been gaining popularity in recent years. Although smaller and with less output power, the 6505 MH features the same gain structure and voicing as the bigger version.

EVH 5150III 15W LBX Head

EVH Gear joins the “lunchbox” trend with the 5150III LBX Head, a compact 15W version of the popular 5150III amp. Related Feature:EVH 5150IIIS Stealth This compact amplifier packs the popular 5150III tube driven circuit and it’s fiery rock and metal friendly tone inside a compact amp head, competing against other lunchbox style guitar amplifiers. This is an interesting incarnation of Van Halen’s 5150, making its sought after signature high-gain tone more accessible for budget conscious players, and more comfortable to carry around. And its interesting how they do so while retaining important control features as found on the bigger models. For an amplifier this small, the EVH 5150III 15W LBX comes packed with quite the tube muscle. Featuring a total of seven tubes, with five ECC83S (more popularly known as 12AX7) on the preamp section and two EL84 tubes on the poweramp section, more than enough to get this 15W amp screaming with the same high-gain tone found on the bigger 5150III amp head. While other compact amplifiers settle for straightforward single channel operation, EVH Gear equipped the Lunchbox style 5150 with more tone variety via the two channel selection, first of which is the Blue “Crunch” channel and the

A guitar that is comfortable to play.” Two types of body designs will be available for Tregan models: – The Standard Series covers all the necessities: low action, rosewood fretboard, woods such as mahogany, alder and ash, Grover tuners and Wilkinson tremolos. – The Signature Series adds extra perks like quilted and flame maple tops, Mother
