Epiphone teams up with bass designer Michael Tobias once more to come up with a five-string electric guitar bass, the Toby Deluxe-V.
Vintage purists should look elsewhere, this five-string bass guitar is designed to provide you with versatile modern tones to match modern music.
Following the original Toby bass which was also designed by Michael Tobias, the Toby Deluxe-V features an ergonomic body shape that is easy to play. It simply added a lower 5th string tuned to low B to cover more low register ground.
The defining feature of this 5-string bass guitar is its Tobias Asymmetrical neck profile. Its hard maple neck that has a lower side that is thinner than the upper side. Although it may seem awkward, this design makes the neck comfortable to grip, enhancing playability. The neck also features a modern version of bolt-on construction with recessed bolts and washers for quick adjustments. It has a 34″ scale length and is topped with a rosewood fingerboard. The headstock is distinctively “Toby”, bearing its model logo and equipped with Deluxe Diecast machine heads with a 17:1 ratio.
The body of the Toby Deluve-V is made of solid radiata wood and comes equipped with a flush-mount low profile adjustable bridge. On the body, you will also find its Tobias designed pickups, the Tobias SCR Split Humbucker in the neck position and a Tobias SCT Split Humbucker at the bridge. The pickups are controlled by a master volume knob, a pickup blend knob with center Detent and a master EQ. Another unique feature of this bass guitar is its battery powered Active Tonexpressor bass enhancement control, letting you further modify your tone.
The controls and hardware are all matching black to highlight the finish and shape. You can choose from three gloss finishes namely: Ebony, Translucent Red, and Vintage Sunburst. Since this bass guitar is made by Epiphone, it comes at a very affordable street price of $299.
