Fender interjects modern design into the classic P Bass, resulting in the new Fender Carbonita Precision Bass.
The simplicity of the Carbonita design has crept into various classic Fender instruments, and now even Fender’s first ever bass gets the Carbonita treatment.
The body of this bass is made of alder and follows traditional P bass shape, however the design features follow the modern look found on other Carbonita instruments. The pickguard shape, knob placement, minimal hardware and general simplicity of the body gives the good old P Bass a refreshing make over.
Neck and fretboard of this bass is made of maple, carved into a “C” profile with a scale length of 34″. It has 20 medium jumbo frets and has a nut width of 1.625″. Black dot inlays serve as visual markers along the fretboard. This bass retains the original Precision Bass headstock shape.
Unique to the Carbonita Precision Bass is the use of a Fideli’Tron Bass humbucking pickup. This gives it not just a unique look, but a tone that will behave much like the twangy Carbonita guitars that also use the same type of pickups. You can set the tone and volume via two independent knurled flat-top knobs.
All the metal hardware on this bass comes with a chrome/nickel finish, including the 4-saddle Fender Hi-Mass bridge, American Vintage Reverse open-gear tuners and the knobs.
Finally, this 4 string bass comes in three different finishes: 2-color sunburst with 1-ply black pickguard, Black finish with 1-play white pickguard and Candy Apple Red with 1-play white pickguard.
