The Gretsch G5442BDC Electromatic is a short scale hollow body bass, equipped with Black Top Filter’Tron pickups
This relatively affordable short scale bass guitar will give you the same Gretsch hollow body vibe, in a double cutaway shape.
Some players may find it hard to use the big bodied G5440LS Hollow Body bass and its long scale neck. So to accommodate these players, Gretsch produced the G5442BDC, a short scale alternative that is easier to play with featuring a neck scale length of 30.25″.
The body of this bass guitar is made of 5-ply maple that is cut into Gretsch’s double cutaway shape. It features sound post bracing and great looking “f-holes”. Both the body and the f-hole feature classic bindings.
The neck of this bass guitar is made of maple, topped with a bound rosewood fretboard. Its short scale neck comes with 22 medium jumbo frets that are conveniently playable. Gretsch’s familiar hump-block Pearlie inlays litter the fretboard, serving as great looking guides for your fingers.
The sound of this bass is captured by a pair of Black Top Filter’Tron pickups, providing the same Gretsch vibe when you play. These pickups are based on Baldwin-era Filter’Trons, and are vintage voiced to provide classic sounding low register tones. The pickups used on this bass guitar are fine tuned to match the frequencies of a bass instrument.
Other features of this bass guitar include a classic “G” arrow control knobs, three-position pickup switch, rosewood-based four-saddle Adjusto-Matic bridge and a “G”-cutout tailpiece.
