Gibson honors Jeff Tweedy’s achievements in country, alternative and experimental rock music with the Jeff Tweedy Signature SG.
The Jeff Tweedy Signature SG is based on the ’61 era Gibson SG, with PAF-style humbucking pickups, a Lyre vibrato tailpiece and a unique Pelham Blue finish.
Just as how Jeff Tweedy shunned the conventional style in favor of emotive attitude and gritty trenchant tones, his signature guitar adds an alternative flavor to the traditional and familiar design of the SG.
The body of the Jeff Tweedy Signature SG ’61 is made of solid mahogany, shaped in the classic asymmetrical double cutaway design. Mahogany is chosen for its resonance and light weight, combine that with the SG’s distinctive beveled edge and you have a guitar that is comfortable to carry and play. The guitar features a satin-finished back, quarter sawn mahogany neck that is shaped in a slim but rounded ’60s profile, this ensures smooth playing feel. The neck is glued into the body via set-neck joint construction. Other features include premium rosewood fingerboard, acrylic trapezoid inlays, mother of pearl Gibson headstock logo and holly inlay.
The Jeff Tweedy Signature SG is loaded with a pair of Burst Bucker 1 pickups with nickel covers, which according to Gibson is the closes you can get to genuine PAF sounding humbuckers. The pickups are designed to employ unequal turns of wire in each coil to provide the characteristic PAF bite. The electronics are controlled via the basic four-knob controls configuration.
Its unique feature is the addition of an authentic Maestro-style vibrato tailpiece with a decorative Lyre cover. This is partnered with the usual tune-o-matic bridge and vintage style Tone Pros tuners.
The current MSRP for the Jeff Tweedy Signature SG is $2,599.
