The SG Special ’70s Tribute guitar is a relatively affordable SG that pays homage to Gibson’s popular 1970’s rock guitars.

This guitar offers the same quality and performance that made the Gibson SG a staple instrument in the ’70s rock music arena. The designs were updated with modern construction methods for better stability and better pricing.
The SG Special ’70s Tribute begins with a traditional solid mahogany body carved to the familiar asymmetrical double-cutaway shape for upper fret access. You will fill its distinctive profile once you run your hands on the maple neck, which is carved into ’70s style fast neck shape – measuring .800″ deep at the 1st fret and .963″ at the 12th. The brown maple fingerboard carries small block inlays and is topped with PLEK-cut Corian nut. It features a volute behind the nut to both to improve resonance and strengthen the headstock joint.
This tribute guitar features a pair of Dual Blade Alnico Mini Humbuckers which are new pickups from Gibson USA. It is the upgraded version of the former Mini Humbuckers found in old Les Paul Deluxe and Firebirds. It has a design that uses dual steel blades and an alnico magnet to get a vintage voice that retains chime. The pickups are controlled by a straightforward three-way control switch with independent volume and tone knobs. Other hardware include Tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece and vintage-style 16:1 TonePros tuners with pearloid keys.
This SG comes in four available finishes: Satin Cherry, Satin Vintage Sunburst, Satin Ebony and Satin Silver Burst. To help keep its price from skyrocketing, this guitar does not have fingerboard binding – however it does have pickup rings, gold knobs and pickguards that match the finish that you prefer.
The Gibson SG Special ’70s Tribute is currently retailing for a cool price of $849, which is a welcome change from the various expensive guitars that Gibson has been putting out lately.
