2012 PRS DGT Standard – David Grissom Trem Signature

The 2012 PRS DGT Standard comes in a solid mahogany body, providing a warmer alternative tone to the original David Grissom Trem series guitars.

Aside from tonal variety, eye candy will be all over the place as the 2012 PRS DGT Standard will be available in V12 Finish with a total of 9 unique colors.

David Grissom has been playing his DGT almost exclusively for the last 5 years and had a number of ideas for the DGT. The main idea was that he wanted to have the same guitar features of DGT but with the unique sonic signature of a solid mahogany guitar.

David wants to get a guitar with emphasis and focus on mids and have a nice growl and chime. So Paul and David agreed to an all-mahogany version, making a great variation on the original DGT without having to go too far off from the original design and features.

David Grissom was quoted saying: “I got the first prototype at NAMM this year, and I have to say that PRS hit it out of the park once again!”.

The 2012 DGT Standard will feature PRS’ V12 Finish. This finish was created by PRS to accentuate the inherent beauty of the wood without hindering its natural resonance. It is a very thin, hard and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. You might consider it as halfway between acrylic and nitro, and according to Paul Reed Smith: “PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments”.

Available colors include Antique White. Frost Blue Metallic, Green Burst, Black, Faded Cherry, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue and Natural.

The 2012 David Grissom Trem series will offer the same pickup and control design. It has 2 volume controls for the neck and bridge, a master control, a three way toggle switch and a push-pull coil tap split. It sports the new PRS Phase III tuners that will now come standard with many PRS models. These are smooth and larger pegs that improves on the previous design.

The 2012 DGT Standard will be available for order between Feb 17 and March 20, 2012. The current retail price for the David Grissom Signature series is around $2500 and up.
