Guthrie Govan is simply put a guitar player’s guitarist, and is easily one of the most popular virtuoso’s of this era. And it’s not just his skills that are top notch, because his in depth knowledge of the workings of his instruments have made many guitarists curious about his gear selection. So it wasn’t really surprising when there was so much hype during the development of his original signature guitar for Charvel.
Now two years after the original release, Charvel has revisited the Guthrie Govan Signature with a limited run release. And since they didn’t want to fix what is not broken, they stayed with specs and features of the original release, while introducing a new look to the guitar, more specifically, they wrapped it in what they describe as Britannica Red finish, with black burst trimming on the edges.
The Limited Edition Guthrie Govan has the same San Dimas shape body, which is essentially a hot-rodded take on the double-cutaway shape. The body is sculpted from “caramelized” basswood and topped by bird’s-eye maple, a configuration approved by Guthrie himself for its feel and aesthetic appeal.
The neck is crafted from quartersawn flame maple that also went through Charvel’s “caramelized” heat and drying treatment. This treatment artificially ages wood to make it feel and sound older. To ensure stability, Charvel installs graphite reinforcement on the neck, while the hand-rubbed urethane gel on the back of the neck makes it easier to play fast position changes. The flame-maple fingerboard has a scale length of 25.5″ and a total of 24 jumbo stainless steel frets, it comes with a compound radius of 12″-16″, and it also underwent the same caramelized treatment as the neck and body.
Giving this guitar its voice are three HSH configuration pickups, namely, three specially wound Charvel Custom MF pickups. These are wired to a five-way switch for sonic versatility, while two domed control knobs let you adjust the master tone and volume.
Wrapping up the features of this new guitar are US-made recessed Charvel locking tremolo bridge with Tremol-No unit and oversized block, bone nut, chrome hardware. The MSRP for the new Limited Edition Guthrie Govan Signature is $5,714.30, for further details you can visit Charvel Guitars
