Gibson Custom 20th Anniversary 1965 Firebird VII Reissue

In celebration of their 20th Anniversary, Gibson Custom introduces a collectible remake of the 1965 Firebird VII.

20th Anniversary 1965 Firebird VII Reissue

This guitar will have a limited run of 100 worldwide, featuring period correct specifications and aesthetic embellishments.

Labeled as “reverse bodied” because of its odd body shape, the Firebird is not a conventional looking instrument. Yet it stood its ground among the more popular Gibson models, and it has become one of the few enduring old model guitars. Love it or hate it, the Firebird continues to be sought after for its elegance and uniqueness.

Gibson Custom wanted to capture the original feel and vibe of the Firebird when it was released, so they aimed for strict period-correct measurements and design elements, while incorporating their level of handcrafting and quality materials.

In line with this, the 1965 Firebird VII Reissue follows the same body shape, which looks like an offset double-cutaway guitar flipped front to back. It also follows the same “neck-through” construction used on the original, featuring a solid neck and body center section that is made of multi-ply mahogany and walnut, and extended with solid mahogany wings. This unobstructed neck-and-body design helps in improving resonance and sustain.

The neck is carved into a period-correct Firebird neck profile, measuring 0.830″ at the 1st fret and 0.980″ at the 12th fret. It is then topped by a fretboard made of ebony that features 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional block inlays.

Being part of Gibson Custom’s 20th Anniversary models, this guitar carries Gibson’s latest in pickup technology. It comes equipped with three re-engineered Firebird Mini Humbuckers that has the same power and versatility as the 1965 made model. The pickups are loaded with ceramic magnets and wound with 44 AWG wire in the neck and 45 AWG wire in the hotter bridge position. Controls include a traditional 3 way pickup selector and two volume and tone knob.

This limited edition guitar will also feature other hardware, including an ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge, a great looking Maestro Vibrola with long cover and a set of period-correct banjo tuners. The hardware is gold-plated to match the guitar’s Golden Mist Poly finish in nitrocellulose lacquer, and giving the instrument an overall elegant theme. Other features include a period correct black truss rod cover, gold Gibson logo, gold top hat knobs and a three ply white pickguard with red Firebird graphic.

The Gibson Custom 20th Anniversary 1965 Firebird VII Reissue is listed with an MSRP of $9,411. It comes with a Custom Shop case, a manual, adjustment literature and a framed handmade Custom Shop 20th anniversary certificate of authenticity.
