G&L introduces the Tribute Superhawk Deluxe Jerry Cantrell, a more affordable take on the recently released USA model.
Being part of the Tribute series with lower production costs, this Superhawk design is more accessible and affordable.
Looks like G&L is pleased with the guitarist of Alice in Chains, this instrument expands his already impressive number of signature guitars. The Tribute Superhawk Deluxe features the same straightforward rock vibe as his other Tribute Series signature: the Rampage model, only this one has an added humbucker on the neck position.
This Korean-made model closely follows the design and looks of the US-made signature guitar, of which it was based on. It has a soft maple body carved into the same shape, and features the a Blueburst finish. To reduce the cost, a more affordable flame maple veneer is used instead of a genuine flame maple top. Note that this Blueburst finish is mainly the reason why this model is called “Deluxe”.
The neck of the guitar is made from hard maple, and has a scale length of 25.5″. It is topped by an ebony fretboard with 22 medium jumbo nickel frets. The neck profile of the Tribute guitar is slightly thinner than the US made version, having a radius of 12″ and a nut-width of 1.75″.
Another reason why the Tribute Series version is cheaper – it carries two G&L Paul Gagon designed humbuckers, compared to the special Seymour Duncan pickups of the more expensive model. It uses the same humbucker used on Cantrell’s Tribute Rampage guitar. Controls include a 3-position pickup selector, tone and volume control, as well as push/pull coil splitting for more tonal palettes.
A notable distinction of this guitar from the Rampage model is that instead of having a Kahler bridge, it features a more straightforward G&L Saddle Lock bridge. The tuners have an 18:1 ratio and are sealed-back, and the hardware follow a chrome/nickel theme.
According to G&L, “There’s a good chance you’ll see Jerry on stage with a Tribute Series Superhawk in 2013”. The G&L Tribute Superhawk Deluxe Jerry Cantrell guitar has an MSRP of $787.
