This instrument provides an alternative look for one of Martin’s popular acoustic models the 000-15M, giving fans of mahogany topped acoustics more aesthetic options to choose from – instead of the usual natural finish.

This new acoustic is expected to sound and play much like the original satin finish version, and as the name implies, carries with it the company’s style “15” configuration. The only real difference being the finish, which is a welcome change given the many natural finish mahogany acoustic guitars in the market.

Martin’s naming convention gives us an idea of what to expect from this acoustic, first of which, “000” refers to the “auditorium” shape that is slightly smaller than the regular dreadnought but bigger than the 00 size. This model in particular features a 000-14 design, meaning the neck and body meets at the 14th fret.

The number “15” denotes Martin’s Style 15, which is basically describing an all-solid wood guitar with stripped down aesthetics. The letter “M” stands for the wood used on the guitar which in this case is Mahogany, and finally, “Burst” implies the type of finish, which is sunburst.

As mentioned the top, back and sides of the guitar is crafted from solid mahogany, although some traces of spruce can still be found on the A-frame “X” bracing – which uses 5/16″ solid sitka spruce. The neck is also crafted from solid mahogany, carved into a modified low oval shape, which when combines with the thin 1-11/16″ nut width, makes the guitar very comfortable to play.

The 000-15M Burst has a 25.4″ scale length and features a solid east Indian rosewood fretboard. It has a total of 20 frets and utilizes simple diamonds & squares inlays as fret markers. The bridge is also crafted from solid east Indian rosewood while the 16″ Radius compensated saddle is crafted from bone, just like the nut.

Other features of the guitar include Delmar tortoise color pickguard, nickel open-geared tuners w/ butterbean knobs, and traditional solid/square taper headstock.

Martin says that this guitar exhibits a “clear, powerful, expressive and balanced tone”. If you are looking for an acoustic that is different from the usual spruce top equipped models, or you are looking to complement the sound of another player that uses a conventional spruce top acoustic, then you should check out this all-mahogany guitar from Martin.

The MSRP for the Martin 000-15M Burst is $1,849, but I have seen it retailing online for $1,349. Visit Martin Guitar for further details.
