Squier introduces the Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster, an affordable alternative to Fender’s Cabronita Tele.

This new guitar is available in two versions, one with dual Fideli’Tron pickups and a hardtail bridge, and one with a Single-Coil pickup at the bridge, Fideli’Tron at the neck and a nifty Bigsby bridge.

Looks like Fender is trying to rub off some of the success of their Cabronita series into the Squier Vintage Modified range. It follows the same shape, look and even comes with Filter’Tron pickups to reproduce the sound. It mimics the original while keeping the cost of production lower by using more readily available materials, i.e. the use of basswood instead of alder for the body. This guitar is the cheapest Cabronita in the market, which will be good news for budget conscious guitarists, or those that want to try this trending guitar style without having to spend too much.

At the core of this guitar is a basswood body carved into the familiar single cutaway Tele shape. The body is finished in polyurethane black, which serves as a nice contrast to the guitar’s Cabronita style white pickguard and chrome hardware.

The neck and fingerboard is made of maple, it follows a modern C shape that has 9.5″ fretboard radius. It comes with 22 medium jumbo frets and has a scale length of 25.5″. The neck shape and playability follows the same specifications as the ones found on the more expensive models.

To produce the guitar’s distinctive twang, Squier equipped the guitar with two Fideli’Tron pickups for the hard tail version. The slightly cooler Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby retains more of the classic Telecaster sound by having a Single-coil Tele pickup on the bridge, matched by a Fideli’Tron pickup on the neck. The guitar has a three-way toggle switch and a knurled-chrome master volume to keep things simple.

The bridge used on the hardtail version is a string-through-body bridge with six stamped saddles. The other version features a fully adjustable bridge with 6 threaded steel barrel saddles and a Bigsby Licensed B50 Vibrato tailpiece. Rounding off the guitar’s feature are vintage-style tuners.

The Squier Vintage Modified Cabronita Telecaster with Bigsby is currently retailing online for around $406, while the hard tail version is a bit more affordable with a tag price of around $350.
