Fishman Fluence Active Humbucker “Unwound” Pickups

Fishman is now shipping the new Fluence active humbucker line, featuring “printed” magnetic coils that mimic great sounding pickups..

Fishman Fluence

The company is offering two distinctly voiced versions, Fluence Classic and Fluence Modern, both having the same unwound active circuitry with the option to use rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries.

This release comes after the introduction of the Fluence Single Width pickups, and is simply an expected offshoot of their latest electric guitar pickup technology.

Decades after the first magnetic pickup, today’s conventional pickups still follow the same basic design, although it can be argued that what we have is more refined. It is for this reason that Fishman did not extensively join the electric guitar pickup market, stating that they didn’t have anything new to offer… or at least not yet.

Earlier this year, they unveiled the Fluence pickup, developed after 18 months of research. The tech behind Fluence’s technology is the company’s way of dealing with the inconsistencies prevalent in traditional pickup manufacturing. The company was able to find a way to mimic how coils behave by having them “printed” on a circuit board. This allows for improved consistency between each production pickup and virtually eliminates noise, hum, tone loss and cable capacitance problems.

The Fluence Core basically “models” great sounding pickups using analog methods, allowing for each pickup to have multiple “voices” consistently across multiple production units! Each Fluence pickup is equipped with two complementary tones on board. Because of its active design, adjusting your volume will not sacrifice high end or clarity.

The company adds, “Fluence is also the first pickup system to eliminate two of the main reasons many players avoid going active—battery cost and implementation. When coupled with the Fluence rechargeable Lithium-ion battery pack, time between charges is literally weeks instead of hours. And, when the battery is low, there is no need to remove screws, pickguards or other trap doors. Just plug in a standard USB charger and another 200+ hours of playing time is on tap. A standard 9V battery can also power Fluence pickups.”
