This interesting clip-on version of iRig is said to be inspired by a documentary on flamenco virtuoso Paco de Lucia, featuring the company’s latest miniature microphone technology.

The iRig acoustic is basically a clip-on microphone that is especially designed to attach to the soundhole of an acoustic guitar and capture all the nuances of the instrument for digital recording. It features a patent-pending easy to use clip design that can be attached and detached in seconds for convenient and quick recording.

As expected, this new acoustic guitar mic connects to both iOS and Android devices, which lets you easily connect it to your iPhone, iPad, iPad Touch Mac and your recording ready Android phone or tablet. What’s interesting though is the claim that the iRig Acoustic will make your instrument sound better than when using conventional magnetic or piezo pickups. This is a big claim but IK Multimedia is standing by the advanced miniature microphone technology that they used on this clip-on mic.

According to the press release, the iRig Acoustic mimics a high-end microphone that’s placed in the sweet spot in front of your instrument. They achieved this by having the mic capture the full-frequency range, tonal character, overtones and complex harmonics of acoustic guitars. It features MEMS (MicroElectrical-Mechanical System) microphone technology, with an omnidirectional polar pattern that makes it work well in its position just inside sound hole.

Together with the AmpliTube Acoustic app, they say that you can get sounds that can rival studio quality equipment. This app analyzes and optimizes the sound of your guitar to mimic that of your chosen model, allowing for quality and versatility that conventional mics don’t offer. The app also comes with multiple amplifiers, stompboxes and other advanced features that are useful for acoustic guitar players.

Another nifty feature is the addition of a female stereo output jack that is placed on the in-line cable for use with headphones monitoring. You can also use it as a lineout device for sending a signal to a PA for live performance, which is quite nifty. Finally, the iRig Acoustic is super compact, easily fitting any pocket which allows for quality recording wherever and whenever you need it.
