It is currently on a Kickstarter campaign and judging by the many “backers” it got, this nifty tool could hit the stores soon.

At first glance, Roadie looks like a mechanical shaver, but closer inspection will show that the rotating head is meant to grasp guitar tuning keys. According to Band Industries: “Roadie tunes your guitar quickly and accurately. It informs you of the quality of your strings and recommends restringing as soon as the tone quality deteriorates.”

The Roadie Tuner requires a Free iOS/Android app to work, this app turns your smartphone or tablet into the ears and controller of Roadie. Once you install the app, you just have to pair Roadie with your phone via Bluetooth 4.0 connection and then your phone will display the user interface.

All the audio processing work is done by your iOS or Android device, and it also sends out the tuning commands to Roadie. This allows for a more cost effective automatic tuner design, because it utilizes your phone’s existing processing power.

Using Roadie will make tuning quicker, easier and less prone to mistakes. Also, the tuning technology used by Roadie Tuner is three times more accurate than the average human ear, allowing for accurate and quicker tuning. In conjunction with the ability to set alternate tunings, the Roadie literally becomes a “roadie” that preps up the guitar for you.

Another interesting feature is the Instrument Doctor, where you can create a profile for your instrument and keep track of the maintenance. It will then track elasticity and tonal changes, so it can tell you when you need to change your strings. Roadie’s smart tuning technology also factors in age, moisture, temperature and rust as it tunes your guitar much like how experienced roadies would when faced with older strings.

The tuning accuracy of Roadie is 2 cents, with a range of 55Hz (A1) to 880Hz (A5). It utilizes LiPo rechargeable battery that can tune 6000 strings on a full charge. Charging is as simple as plugging in a micro USB to your computer.

The pledges have already gone beyond the crowdfunding goal and there are more days to go. You can visit Kickstarter for more information.
