Loeb holds guitar and songwriting clinic just for girls

The arts and cultural education organization Manhattan New Music Project has teamed up with Daisy Rock to present a one-day guitar/songwriting instructional clinic taught by GRAMMY-nominated recording artist Lisa Loeb. Fourth and fifth grade girls from PS24k in Brooklyn will have the unique opportunity to share their day with Lisa while honing their musical skills on January 16, 2008.

Manhattan New Music Project is an organization conceived as a means to keep music and arts alive in the New York City schools. MNMP residency programs foster original, student-created artistic work across all artistic disciplines. MNMP programs are available in the areas of music, drama, dance/movement, visual arts and creative writing. MNMP is also a leader in the area of professional development. MNMP offers staff development workshops for both arts teachers and classroom subject teachers on arts related topics in New York City's public schools in all five boroughs and has a current system-wide contract for both kinds of services. MNMP provides arts specific programs in the five major arts disciplines (music, dance, drama, visual arts, creative writing) and / or integrate classroom curricula into an arts rich environment. PS24k was selected for this exciting opportunity because of their dedication to a positive school environment through innovative conflict resolution and character education programs. Loeb will work with 12 girls from fourth and fifth grades that participate in the lunchtime girls club program. These young ladies will spend the day with Lisa working on their own original songs. They will also have a discussion session during lunch about Lisa's career as an artist, the struggles of women in the music business and being a positive female role model.

This special session coincides with the January 22, 2008 reissue on CD of “The Purple Tape,” Loeb's first recording, made in 1992. The double disc features the original 10 tracks from “The Purple Tape,” live acoustic versions of two tracks including her No 1. hit song, Stay (I Missed You), and an in-depth interview with Lisa where she talks about the early days, her songs and the songwriting process, the business in general, and offers words of wisdom to emerging artists.
