This competition was created by Converse and Guitar Center, and it is supported by multiple big name guitar manufacturers including Fender, Martin, Vox, Ernie Ball, Dunlop and many more.

The winning artist will literally get the chance to “get out of the garage”, to record a 3-song EP at Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn, in collaboration with writer and producer Dev Hynes, who is known for his work as Blood Orange. The recording will then be digitally distributed by Tunecore as part of the prize package.

After recording, the deserving independent artist will take the stage in Austin at the Fader Fort event presented by Converse in 2013. This is a four day event dedicated for new talents, it has helped many then-unknowns such as The Black Keys, Kendrick Lamar, Florence and the Machine, Yelaworlf, M.I.A., Odd Future, Cold War Kids, Kid Cudi, Feist and many more.

To get them ready for the performance, the artists will be outfitted with new gear from Fender, Vox, Martin, Shure, Gretsch and Ernie Ball. They will also be featured on the Guitar Center with Nic Harcourt podcast series.

Joining is simple, just submit a recorded live performance or music video to the Get Out of the Garage website. The submission must feature the artist’s original music, no cover music is allowed. According to the rules and regulations, only USA citizens are allowed to participate.

The competition is divided into three rounds, the first one measures the online social media activity and interest that your video makes. The second round will have judges pick five finalists based on performance from the top performers of the previous round. Finally the Grand Prize round, where the finalists showcase their talents will decide the contest winner.

Dev Hynes was quoted saying: “Working with new artists is something I’m always keen to do, free of jadedness and excitable with zero connotations in regards to experimentation. If I could just help aid where they want to go somehow then I’ll be extremely happy.”

Aside from the above mentioned awards, the grand prize winner also receives $25,000 cash. To join the competition or to vote for your favorite, visit Get Out of The Garage.
