This new stompbox reproduces all the classic sounds of the original NYC Big Muff Pi and adds in a wealth of features that expand the pedal’s sonic capabilities.
For over 44 years, the Big Muff Pi continues to be popular in the distortion/fuzz pedal market. This is an impressive feat considering the ocean of dirt pedals that the Big Muff Pi is currently competing with.
Up to this day, many players still prefer the original pedal’s three-knob configuration for its easy and straightforward control. However there are some that wish they had more control over the sound, thankfully EHX has heard their pleas and have released the Deluxe Big Muff Pi.
To appeal to players that require more sonic flavors from their fuzz box, the company decided to add expanded tone shaping controls to the Big Muff Pi, resulting in this new “Deluxe” version.
Four of the new controls focus on the mids, this includes Level, Freq, hi-low Q switch and a footswitch. This allows for detailed midrange cut or boost that you can engage via the dedicated footswitch.
As if that is not enough, the Deluxe version comes with an expression pedal input that will let you control the MID section. You can plug your favorite expression pedal to the Deluxe Big Muff Pi and use it to adjust the middle frequencies in real time.
Today’s players will appreciate the addition of an adjustable Gate control for eliminating noise and hum. According to the brand, the noise gate does its job with minimal effect on the original tone and attack of your playing.
The adjustable Attack control lets you add punch to your chords and single note lines. It works in conjunction with sustain which adds sustain and clarity. Finally, the pedal has a switchable Bass boost for added bottom end when you need it.
