Majik Box expands their line of hand-made pedals with the new Filthy Lucre Distortion Pedal, featuring tones inspired by modified tube amps.
This new distortion pedal comes in a compact metal chassis and is now ready for shipping from Majik Box facility.
The Filthy Lucre is inspired by the work of the brave few that modified amplifiers from the ’70s to the early ’80s. Majik Box names Jose Arredondo’s modification work as the pedal’s main influence. Just like how these modified amps provided fine-tuned tones beyond its default design, the Filthy Lucre aims to provide finely tuned distorted tones that go beyond what conventional dirt boxes offer.
This pedal comes with a straightforward set of controls, including a gain knob, level knob and a 3-band EQ. By playing with the Bass, Treb and Mid knobs, you can accentuate the frequencies that you desire, while the gain knob is designed to behave like that of a tube amp modified for distortion and high-gain use. The level knob also operates like an amp, which makes the Filthy Lucre more like a dirty channel amp in a compact box, than a distortion pedal.
This distortion pedal is meant to be used in front of the clean channel of any amplifier, and Majik Box describes the tone as being highly articulate. It can also be used as a dedicated preamp in conjunction with the power section of an amp, or you can connect it to a dedicated power amp. The pedal features a distinctive graphic on its top panel, which matches well with the white knobs and labels. Much like many of today’s boutique level pedals, Majik Box incorporates true bypass operation into this pedal.
At last January’s NAMM show, a prototype of the Filthy Lucre gained quite the attention. Guitarists such as Vic Johnson and Doug Aldrich wowed the crowds with the tones that this pedal can produce. Now the pedal is being hand-wired and hand-built in Torrance, CA, and is up for grabs with a retail price of $239.99.
