This preamp pedal is said to be completely redesigned from the ground up, built to work well with acoustic guitars, bass guitars and other types of instruments.

As expected from Fishman, the pedal is housed in an elegant looking box that features a straightforward interface. Interestingly, the integrated digital chromatic tuner takes the central spot, even though it is just an added feature to the preamp pedal.

At the core of this pedal is a 17 Volt, high-headroom, discrete Class-A preamp. The company says that the preamp features “precision, high-speed circuitry for the highest fidelity and low distortion”. And with them being the most popular builder of pickup and preamp systems, it would be safe to assume that they are not bluffing. Having partnered with so many acoustic guitar manufacturers, including the biggest names in the industry, this pedal is expected to be a great sounding preamp.

As the name implies, the new Platinum Pro EQ pedal provides professional level tone shaping via the 5-band tone knobs that include low cut, brilliance, bass, treble and mid. For more in depth tweaking, Fishman added a mid frequency knob that you can sweep as you would on the built-in preamps that they build for acoustic-electric guitars. There is also an EQ mode switch that will tweak the pedal to work better for bass or for guitar.

Feedback reduction is provided by the pedal’s Phase control switch. In louder settings, you can adjust the notch filter knob to further reduce unwanted feedback.

Aside from the usual preamp features, Fishman equipped the Platinum Pro EQ pedal with a one-knob adjustable soft-knee compressor. This effect complements the preamp section really well because it can make your playing dynamics more consistent, without making drastic changes to your tone. This will make the pedal quite useful for recording purposes, especially since it will work with various types of instruments.

A dedicated volume boost foot switch completes the features of the Pro EQ pedal, it comes with a level control that you can adjust to achieve up to +12dB of boost. For quick and easy rig integration, the pedal comes with a balanced XLR D.I. with pre/post EQ setting and ground lift.

Fishman is also releasing a wearable preamp that clips to your belt, called Platinum Stage. It is designed to be ideal for musicians that love to move around, mobile instrumentalists that include mandolin and fiddle players. It can also has the option to be powered via 48V phantom power.

The new Fishman Platinum Pro EQ pedal is expected to retail for around $385, while the wearable Platinum Stage is a bit cheaper at $185. For further details, head over to Fishman.
