Described as having a fat fuzz tone complemented by reverb soundscapes, this special combination is designed to provide players with a way to conjure unique dreamy tones and sonic textures.

Fuzz and reverb is an interesting combination that goes beyond the usual partner for reverb, which is overdrive. To make it more interesting, the company also opted for a more complex and versatile type of reverb and instead of the usual basic reverb found on overdrive/reverb combo pedals and on amplifiers.

According to the press release, Chief Engineer Robert Keeley and his team created a “first-in-class fuzz/reverb pedal that would allow players to create dreamy soundscapes of texture, color, and emotion with unique and innovative reverb sounds not heard before.”

The new Keeley Sojourner’s two effect sections are based on one of their other pedals, albeit with some changes to better complement the mixing of fuzz and reverb for guitar. The fuzz circuit of the Sojourner Fuzz Verb is based on the company’s “Psi Fuzz” pedal, carrying with it Keeley’s highly modified take on the Op Amp Pi. The fuzz sound is described as having the same warmth and cream of a vintage germanium transistor based fuzz peals.

The company described the sound of the fuzz section, “It produces thick, full range fuzz with enhanced midrange presence, tight bass, and an overall polish and compression that creates perfect fuzz tones right out of the gate.”

Keeley Electronics used the Aurora Reverb effect as the inspiration for the reverb found within the Sojourner Fuzz Verb. But rather than merely copying, the company added new reverb algorithms that include modern “reverse” reverb and shimmer. If you’re looking for an unexpected way of working echoes into your tone then you should check out the reverse reverb mode. The new Shimmer reverb mode makes the high octave trails decay, allowing you to go from long and expansive ambience to subtle and space.

Signal routing is also improved, thanks to the insert jock which allows you to add-in effects in between the fuzz and reverb sections. Like other Keeley Electronics’ designs, the Sojourner Fuzz Verb is hand-built in the USA, housed in a rugged enclosure, and comes with true bypass switching.

The Keeley Electronics Sojourner Fuzz Verb goes is now available for purchase, with a tag price of $299. Head over to Robert Keeley for further details.
