MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe

Dunlop introduces the MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe, a versatile analog modulation pedal tuned specifically for bass.

MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe

The MXR M83 Bass Chorus Deluxe is designed to provide liquid swooshing and chorus, along with metallic flanger effects without sacrificing low end punch and clarity.

Although bassists usually stay away from modulation type effects, tasteful applications of chorus and flanger are sure to wow the audience. Jaco Pastorius, a legendary bass virtuoso awed listeners with his use of chorusing via splitting his signal on the Weather Report’s 1977 album Heavy Weather. Sting, another master of the instrument, also impressed with his spacious chorused textures in the song Walking on the Moon. Various other bassists have also used their own flavor of chorusing to create great and memorable bass lines.

Now Jim Dunlop wants to give bassist a versatile tool for creating their own great sounding chorus and flanger effected sounds. The Bass Chorus Deluxe pedal may look like a simple straightforward pedal, but it gives you a myriad of tone shaping options – Bass and Trebel EQ, top-mounted Flanger button and a X-Over switch.

Notable features of the MXR M83 Bass Chorus Deluxe:

  • Analog bucket-brigade technology
  • Flanger and X-Over for added tonal flexibility
  • Separate Bass and Treble controls
  • Rate, Width and Intensity controls
  • True bypass

The parameters for the chorus and flanger effect are pretty straightforward, and since it utilizes genuine bucket brigade technology, you can expect good quality effected sound. For playing upper register melodies and chords, you can use the pedal’s X-Over Mode, which modulates the low frequencies less, to retain low register quality. Bass and Treble control knobs are conveniently added, letting you cut or boost the highs and lows for shaping the tonal character of the effect.

For a wide stereo sound, select the TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) Stereo Hardwire Bypass Mode via an internal switch. In this mode, you can use a TRS to TS (tip-sleeve) Y-splitter cable to send the effect signal to two different amplifiers, allowing the modulation to move from left to right.

Good parameter control can be rendered useless if the panel is not easy to see or access, thankfully MXR spaced the knobs evenly and added in nify LED status indicators.

The Bass Chorus Deluxe is part of the MXR Bass Innovations line, It has an MSRP of $298.68.
