This reverb pedal follows the portable and straightforward design of the company’s other small pedals, having a simple three-knob setup and compact profile while retaining high headroom and flexibility.

According to the official description, the new MXR Reverb is designed to reproduce the sound of high end rack units and plug-ins in pedal format. And to achieve this, they utilized what they call as “Constant Headroom Technology”, which allows a compact pedal to have 20 volts of headroom. With this, the company was able to ensure that each of the six reverb types are as detailed as expensive reverb racks and plug-ins.

Speaking of reverb types, the pedal lets you switch between classics like Spring, Plate and Room, along with three other types that include Mod, Pad and Epic. And you can switch between them without having to go beyond the three knob limitation, because MXR equipped with it with a tone knob that can be pushed to cycle through the six reverb types.

The Six Reverb Types as Described by MXR:

  • The PLATE setting provides a shimmering smooth wash of space that’s a go-to choice from the studio recording world.
  • SPRING sets a new standard for truly authentic sounding reverb without coiled metal—a perfect recreation of the classic amp-based effect, with the Tone control taking you from dark vintage amp spring, through classic jangle, to bright surfy splatter.
  • EPIC is a unique combination of multiple interwoven analog-tone delay lines and complex modulation—perfect for solos from that more shaded part of the lunar landscape.
  • MOD throws down a plate-flavored spaciousness with richly organic modulation in the feedback path.
  • ROOM style adds subtle body and projection to your guitar tone at shorter decay times while longer decay times yield rich organic space that doesn’t wash out.
  • PAD closes out the line-up with a unique combination of sub-octave + octave-up with echoes + “shimmer” + synth/organ modulation + reverb.

As expected, these six reverb types are reproduced via digital means, using algorithms that the company claims to be comparable to that of high-end reverb plug-ins. Before you snob its digital component, know that MXR Reverb MXR reverb features an all-analog dry path to ensure signal quality and transparency. This way you don’t loose sonic details, ensuring that the nuances of your playing are reproduced properly. Check out the official video demonstration of the pedal below and hear for yourself:

For something so compact, the team behind MXR was able to pack this pedal with extra features, including an expression pedal jack input which you can use to toggle and blend between two different knob settings. This allows for realtime reverb switching when needed, great for emphasizing certain parts in live performances.

In addition to the Volume/Expression pedal jack input, the MXR Reverb also comes with stereo input and output capability, with true relay or trails bypass selection. This allows you to utilize this pedal in both straightforward series configuration or use it in more complex guitar rig setups. There’s also a 100% wet mode if needed.

Finally, this pedal is housed in a tank tough metal enclosure that’s built to be tour worthy, and because its small, it can easily fit into your ever growing pedalboard. The new MXR Reverb is currently retailing for $199.99. For more information, you can head over to Jim Dunlop.
