Antares Announces ATG-6 – Auto-Tune for Guitar

UPDATE: Video Demonstration of the ATG-6 Technology

Antares ATG-6

Antares are describing ATG-6 as “new revolutionary technology”. I can’t help but feel that guitarists are going to be divided on this in much the say way that musicians and fans were for some time divided over that “T-Pain sound”.

In the announcement Antares are saying that you will be able to use the ATG-6 to correct any flaws in your guitar’s intonation as you move up and down the neck.

I’m not quite sure what to make of this, surely having your neck and bridge properly adjusted is by far a better way to solve this kind of problem.

However, I’m not totally down on the idea of this new product. I’m sure there will be a range of new uses that people find for it in their effects chain – just as Auto-Tune is often used as a vocal effect rather than as an undetectable correctional process.

Of course Antares are talking about the obvious application of making it sound like your guitar’s still in tune even as it starts to go out.

Other than that, they haven’t said much else so far. We will have to wait to see what form this product will take and how much it will cost.
