Ax Facts and Stats: Sean Entrikin

Welcome again to Extreme Guitars “Ax Facts & Stats”. This month I am proud to Bring to you Sean Entrikin. This very talented up-and-coming guitarist currently with the band PRYMARY is this month’s featured AX!

I predict many great things in the future for this guitarist, so read on and enjoy this month’s “AX Facts & Stats”.

My name is: Sean Entrikin

My current job is: I’m a senior at California State University of San Bernadino, I’m a Music Major. .

My hometown is: Riverside, California.

My current Band is: Prymary.

My current album or project is: “Roads of Fire” – Prymary.

My guitar influences growing up were: Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, John Petrucci, Zakk Wylde.

The guitars I use are: Yamaha Pacifica, Dillion 7-string.

The strings and tunings I use are: I use D’addario .10-.46 strings and standard tuning on my Pacifica, I use the same strings and a .56 as my low “A” on my 7-string with standard tuning as well (low to high A-E-A-D-G-B-E).

My current rig setup consists of: 5150 head, Marshall cabinet, BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer, Boss Digital Delay and Super Chorus pedals, Crybaby wah-pedal.

The greatest invention for guitars is: Electricity.

My normal songwriting process: Usually one of us comes in with a riff or two, shows the rest of us, then we all start to jam on it and work it out… then we work on the next part and so on. The lyrics usually come later but we do also write the music to the words, as we did with “Roads of Fire”.

My Favorite PRYMARY solo is: The Outro solo in “Common Ground”, I’m very proud of that solo.

My Favorite PRYMARY song is: “Roads of Fire”

My favorite guitar solo from another guitarist is:): The second guitar solo in “Mr.Crowley” by Randy Rhoads, I prefer the live version off “Tribute”.

My favorite song from another artist is:): “Revelation (Mother Earth)” – Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads.

My Career highlight is: Writting and recording our album “Roads of Fire”, especially the title track. I think it’s the biggest step we, as a band, have taken. I’m very proud of it. *) My most embarrassing moment on stage: Picking up my Flying “V” for a song and noticing after the first chord that it was out of tune. Ugh. =)

The one piece of my gear that I cannot live without is: I can’t live without my Pacifica.

The first song I mastered on guitar was: “Enter Sandman” by Metallica.

My first guitar was: It was a generic “Cruise” model guitar. I still have it, but don’t play it much anymore.

The best guitar advice ever given to me: “Just play”.

The CD(s) I’m listening to right now is: “Remedy Lane” – Pain of Salvation, “Best of Beethoven – The Piano Sonatas”, “The Ultra Zone” – Steve Vai.

My 3 all-time favorite albums are: 1. “The Perfect Element Pt.1” – Pain of Salvation 2. “Tribute” – Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads 3. “Fire Garden” – Steve Vai.

I’m a sucker for: Being liked… it seems if someone likes me or likes something that I’ve done, I get all giddy.

If I could meet any ONE person living or dead, he/she would be: Randy Rhoads, I would like to tell him just how much he’s inspired me in my life. He was not only a great musician, but a great person too.

My favorite junk food is: Pizza, pizza, pizza.

My biggest pet peeve is: A closed mind. That is the worst thing a musician, and a person in general, could have

The word or catch phrase I say way too much is: “yeah yeah”

The hardest part of my job is: Sitting in a classroom when I could be playing my guitar.

The first thing I do when I come home from touring is: As corny as this sounds, I practice when I come home from a gig. I’m usually pretty pumped after a gig, and I get inspired to practice. Kind of a ritual for me now I guess.

My Favorite Website is: http://www.prymary.com/

The worst job I ever had was: I did construction for a little bit, manual labor for a guitarist is NOT good.

If I could create the dream band with any musicians dead or alive, I would choose: I would choose: Randy Rhoads & Steve Vai on guitar, Neil Peart on drums, Victor Wooten on bass, Daniel Gildenlow on vocals, Jordan Rudess on keyboards.

I couldn’t imagine being on the road without: Well, my guitar… but besides the obvious, I’d probably say my necklace… it’s pretty special to me.

If I wasn’t doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working as: An athlete, I grew up wanting to be a professional basketball player.

My favorite movie ever: Braveheart

My mission in life: To play music for the rest of my life, marry my soul mate, have a family… basically live my dream.

My greatest obsession: Music… there is nothing that gives me more pleasure.

My first band was: I was in a “band” in high school named ‘DELUSION’, but my first real band was called “The Famous Uncles”. We didn’t really go anywhere but it was fun, and a tremendous learning and growing experience.

My next major step is: Touring Japan would be amazing. I really think we could do well over there.

The greatest contribution guitars have brought into my life is Giving me a life when I had none. Giving me hope when I had none. Giving me an outlet for everything I have inside that I either couldn’t or wouldn’t express to anyone verbally. Guitar is everything to me.

The coolest toy I had growing up was: My basketball. I went everywhere with that thing.

The one musician I would love to work with that I have not yet had the chance would be: Steve Vai, the greatest living guitarist (in my opinion). It would be a dream come true to play music with him.

If I could have three wishes, they would be: #1- To play music for the rest of my life and not have to worry about doing anything else. #2- Marry my soul mate and have a family with her. #3- Have all my friends’ and loved one’s dreams come true.

When it’s all said and done, I want the world to remember me for: Being a good person, who loved guitar and wanted nothing more than to be happy playing music.
