Scott,
You should be proud. I hope the future shows your dad the respect he deserves as a part of US guitar history. I love VA instruments. I’ve had a pre Samick Custom Pro. I have a pre Samick Standard Pro, a Gbson/VA custom pro, a custom pro bass, and had a Samick California Pro while not being an actual CaliPro, was still ok for what it was.
I just saw a 1985 Custom Pro ser# VA0101 made for Kevin B. Clark sell for $5,300.00 on ebay. It was beautiful. Wish I could have afforded it!
Almost bought Larry Carlton model ser#001 supposedly held by Mike McGuire’s son for years, but unfortunately had issues come up and didn’t have the cash then either.
Nice to talk to the son of a Legend
Wally,
From what I can find this is a Samick, parts probably made in Korea and sent to California for assembly, thus allowing the use of made in usa. About 150 made. listed for $750 . Most likely made Jan-March of 1995.
I hope I am correct.
From what I understand Gibson did make some Robert Johnson’s too.
Have fun guys, Jack
