Posted by DC on Sun, 12/28/2003 - 01:39.
Hello I have a Alvarez Model FY50E and looking for information on this guitar. The date on guitar is 1983.
Does anyone know the classical model YC-90 from 1982, if its the equivalent of any current models in production. It's probably a european model name( purchased in Denmark )

My husband has a K Yari DY-78 and we were trying to find our the value on it. It has a 3-piece back and Herringbone design. Very glossy finish and very well kept. If you can help us out, we would appreciate it. Thanks
Also, Alvarez 1990, Satin Finish. With pearl inlay around the sound hole and an inlay of a rose on one of the frets. Head stock has the Alvarez insignia inlay on it. Don't know the numbers on this one. If you could help on this one too, Thanks
For those who love a challenge, I'm trying to see if this guitar is a legitimate "vintage" Yairi Masterworks classical or something else. All I know is the following:
The label says it's made for "CBS Masterworks by Kazuo Yairi"
has "MW" burned into back support, vertical arrangement of letters;
has "MWG-Y1010" as model number on label;
has serial number 14611, supposedly
All of this affirmed by seller. I've not seen the guitar in person.
My concern: I thought serial nos. started with dynastic year, then month, so 4611-- would be better. Also, can't fine model number--nobody's heard of it. And, finally, what is "CBS"??
Any help greatly appreciated, please email me.

I don't know if you are still looking at this but I hav a CBS Masterworks I picked up in '71. The model is MWG560. It was made in Japan. Says nothing about Yairi. I know that Fender sold out to CBS back in '65 and CBS produced guitars until Fender bought it back in '85. I do not know anything else about this guitar but would like to know more.
Hi Chris, my Yairi is model MWG-1035 with heel number 14611,
label reads : hand made exclusively for CBS Masterworks by Kazuo Yairi and is hand signed. Have no idea of date it was manufactured, circa 71-72, i bought it 2 hand circa 75.
It's a wounderful sounding instrument

I'm also looking for information on my Yairi. It's hand made exclusively for CBS Masterworks. The model number MWG- Y 1025. The heel number is 11467. I bought it in 1974 for $50 from one of my brother's friends who was desparate for money. I don't remember how much he paid for it, but is was significantly more than what I paid. It was in perfect condition when I bought it, but it now has some nicks and scratches. Still sounds great.
I have been looking at buying one of these two acoustics and was wonderingif anyone knew if either were made with Mahogany or Rosewood back/sides? I Like the 71, but it seems to be most commonly found in Koa. Any thoughts appreciated.
Hi, Jim. This past Saturday, I bought a new DY71 that was manufactured in '95. From what I've been told, it has a solid Spruce top, laminated Koa back & sides, ebony fingerboard, and a graphite bridge. I put a set of Elixir lights on it, and it sounds as sweet as, if not sweeter than anything I've ever heard. Deep (but not boomy) lows and crisp (but not tinny) highs. It's incredible how much sound comes out of it. And, she's surprisingly lightweight, too. Is there something about Koa that you don't like? Here are a couple of links pertaining to the 71 that you might find helpful. I wish you the best.

I have a 1971 Yairi Classical Guitar. It has a crack on the front about 8 inches long and 1/32 wide. It is signed by S. Yairi and is numbered as 1061 clase 9001. I am wondering if it is worth the $75-$150 to get it fixed.
Thanks
