I own a Korean 4 string bass as one of my back ups. I have been playing 30 years and usually only play USA made Carvin and Fender Jazzes. The Tune holds up to both of them. These days…who cares where it was made. It’s about the sound and the feel.

        Hai. I’m Bernd from Holland.

Last year I bought a second-hand Tune Bass Maniac Standard for 300 euro. The bass was built in the late 80’s or begin 90’s, and was bought in Holland for about 900 euro. It’s a very good, lightweight bass. It plays and sounds very good. I became a real Tune fan and when I play the Fender I miss my Tune………

In my search for any backgrounds of my bass I wrote a mail to Tune, this is what they send me back:

        Dear Bernd,
Sorry for our late reply to your e-mail.

First of all, I’d like to give you an information about TUNE BASSES.

Please noted that we are the owner of " Tune" brand for world market except Japan.
We have Trade mark registration for Europe, USA and Korea.

Actually Tune bass was designed by famous Japanese bass designer Mr. Hatsun Fujitany.
And WSC in Korea was a major supplier for Tune basses.

Along the way, Mr. Hatsun passed his right of Tune brand to Mr. Choi , our president of WSC.
Because he trust Mr. Choi is the right person who really understand how to build Tune based on the original specification.
During this process, one of Mr. Hatsun’s staff asked him to leave the right for Tune brand usage in Japan and Mr. Hatsun granted this to him.

In the meantime, it seems that your Tune bass is made in Japan.

We’re sorry we couldn’t help you on this matter.

        Best Regards,
        Overseas Sales Dept.
        Hannah WSC

So, my experiance with Tune is only positive and I can recommand this bass to all players!!

Greetz from Holland and sorry for my bad English.

        1. so i m not the only crazy base player who bought a Tune 🙂

i just bought my second Tune ,TWB43 SMP-4 , needed to order it in Canada , where it seems they release it at half price (VNS )
i got my first one from a friend, whome loved my style, for free , so i didn’t put much attention at it , at first , even builded active EMG’s in it , but as the play went on i got hooked

i love it design , i love it playability , i feels, sounds & plays like a high end base & its only half the price
his light weight is a major + to

The Tune factory has stopped production. As far as I understand SGC Nanyo Company continued the production with name Bass Collection. I have one 320 Active Electronics model, but these basses You can find only used and with wery good luck, as they are rare and extremely good to play, so people do not sell them easily. Best of luck and Google with SGC Nanyo, You might fin something.

If you are in Australia, get into the yellow pages for South Australia and ring Peter at Holden Hill Music and ask him for a contact number for the distributer. If not, track down an email address for him and get the supplier’s email address. Pete’s got a few new Tunes in stock. I played a new 5 string Bass Maniac. The necks are a lot wider than the originals. I prefer my original with the thinner neck. I also played a few of the new models and they were… OK. Sounded alright and were playable. I’d just finished playing 4 new USA Fenders and they were all crap. The Jazz Bass was unplayable, the ’68 reissue Precision was nothing like a ’68 and whats with the little push button in the tone control???? Make it sound right in the first place and let the amplifier do the talking. No wonder Fender need a custom shop. The factory can’t build it right the first time. I played the new Tunes after I’d played the latest offering from Fender’s "seconds" shop, so maybe I was just grumpy.
My Friend, don’t lose sight of your quest to own a 6 string Tune and don’t give in to carpetbaggers that’ll sell you the first POS bass with 6 strings hanging off it if you rush into a decision. They can all wait until you’ve made up your mind.
Good luck, and keep me in mind when you finally get your Bass. I WANT PICS.

  4. The Tune does it again
    Bruce Benham

Just completed another CD with my Tune 5 String Bass Maniac. The band played well. The drummer is hot. The vintage Telecaster sounds great. The 20 year old Tune sounds fantastic despite the strings going off. We’ll sell plenty of the these new CD’s and I’ll make lots of money from it. I hate this CD. Why? The material is CRAP!!!! This CD was recorded to appease the people who follow the band and wanted us to record these songs. Big mistake!!! There is no attaction to expand our audience. A lesson for all young players. Never give them what they think they want. Always play them what they think they like. Play hard and insist the mix is solid. That does’nt mean loud, either.
Confused? Call me. You know how to find me.
I want to retire but I can’t until you youngsters find some rhythm in your right hands. Left hand for you South paws. Don’t misunderstand my intetions. I’ve heard 16 year old bass players that have the ability and can dig the hole, bury me and piss on the grave of people like me but the best they can hope for is to back some no rythym numbnuts guitarist playing Coldplay covers. I have’nt got all the answers but to say that, they’ll listen to you as long as you can make the blood flow. Coldplay is for NAAFI’s. No Ambition And **** all Interest.
If you’ve got a constructive opion, give me a call. If not, **** off and don’t waste my time. This offer is not extended to losers.

Hey Bruce, I have to say that your bass sound is the best I have ever had the pleasure of sharing on stage! The Tune 5 string never let us down buddy. I’m seriously thinking of taking up bass (I always wanted to play bass but my cousins played bass so I chose lead guitar)and I’d love to get my hands on a tune 5 string.
      Cheers

      Bruce Benham

      Hi all,
I’ve been reading about you all using the Tune basses and going back to the Fender. WHY?? I don’t want sound like the wannabe hero but I started using a Tune 5 string bass maniac in 1988, although I hate the name bass maniac, it really is wanky, I play rock, blues and although I hate to admit it, country, on the Tune. I’ve toured Australia and the world, America, England, Europe and Asia with this bass. I’ve been around a long time and have all the vintage shit, Fender,Gibson (remember the Grabber? Now thats a piece of s**t!!, Gene),Rickenbacker, Wasburn etc… but nothing comes close to the Tune. I can always get my sound no matter what (quality) amplifier I have to use. Most of the work I do is headline crap, so I rarly get to use my own rig.I always have to use someone elses amplifier. You would’nt believe some of the crap amplifiers I’ve had to play through. The only other bass I use these days is an old Washburn fretless bass with EMG pickups in it. This is an awesome bass too but thats another story. My advice to those who own a Tune, keep it, those are thinking of buying one, get it. Don’t bother with the big "F" brands that charge you 3 times the price for a sticker that says "made in USA" or sweat about weather to buy the Mexican or Chinese model because it might be better or not.The Tune is the first no bulls**t bass I’ve owned in 30 years.
      My kindest regards to all,
      Bruce

Ok guys it’s offical I am now in the "Tune Bass" Family. This thing is truly the sh__! and I don’t cuss. But I love this peace. The sound is great, the ease of use(fret board) the eq is the stuff I would give this Bass a 9 out of a 10 hands down. The only thing that I wish is that I could get in touch with the company so I could get some gear, and one of their gig bags. If anyone has any info on how to get this please shoot me an e-mail asap because i’m hooked thanks Marlon, and Rajitha for the info.

Bought on today over a fender Jazz Squire bass. This thing rocks! The electronics are superb and mind blowing for the money. The wood is eye catching. The action better than my other 6 six string abanez it doesn’t even come close to the Tune bass. If it was made in Korea those guys dedicated themselves to thier work because i’m am truly impressed to no end. It’s a DARN BEAUTIFUL PIECE TO OWN….I took it through its rigor this afternoon and it wasn’t founf wanting in respect. I would recommend to any bass player before spending big money on high end basses, check one of these babies out..

    Peace out..

I’d been interested in the Tune bass products for a few years now (I first laid eyes on the classic Bass Maniac in the late 80’s). After spending a few years playing a wide range of basses (Fender, Ibanez Soundgear, Warwick, Yamaha, and even Dean) I finally tried a couple of Tune basses last year. I couldn’t put any of the ones I tried down and the tone was perfect for me. I originally was set to purchase a TWX-62 6-string, but I ended up going for the better, even classier TWB63 6-string with the ovangol wood. This has become my main fretted bass for everything I do. I like it so well that I not only would recommend it over current Warwick basses, but I immediately went and purchased a Tune WB-4FM fretless as well. It’s the most brilliant fretless bass I’ve ever owned and I find my self using it for just about anything from acoustic gigs to heavy indie/"emo" rock and progressive rock. I’ve also ordered a TWX51 5-string as a "spare" or backup to the TWB63, and a TBJ52 (the one that most resembles the classic Tune "Bass Maniac" bass from the late 80’s, but in a 5 string active model. . . it even has the "Bass Maniac" emblem on the front). I resolve to play Tune basses exclusively! You really can’t beat them, especially considering the reasonable price you can find them for in the US. These basses can handle anything you dish out and any style you play! And they sound especially gorgeous through SWR amplification. I don’t know why Tune basses aren’t more prominently used. Dudes don’t know what they’re missing!
