I bought mine a coupla years ago second hand for £150 GBP…
i honestly think it was well worth it and, though the action needed to be lowered considerably it is a nice sounding gutiar… wouldn’t swap it…

      : Hi there,
: I dont no whether you’ll be able to help me or not but I have a YAMAHA FG445 accoustic guitar, im just trying to find out when they were first made and also their value. Perhaps you could give me an idea as to were i should be looking to gather this information.

      : Thank You, Joe
Several months ago, Joe posted a question here about a Yamaha FG-445 acoustic guitar.
I sent a brief reply, stating that I own the same instrument.

I am writing to ask whether someone was able to find out any more info on this guitar, especially around the $ value, because I would like to sell mine. I have tried the Guitar Blue Book website, Google, Yahoo, etc., without success.

My FG445 is a blue sunburst with white binding. I bought it new around 30 years ago, and it is in excellent condition. The binding is, as expected, a little yellowed with age. The guitar has always been humidified, cared for, and rarely out of my house, as I used an electric in the various crappy rocks bands I formed as a teenager!

Anyway, if anyone did discover anything more about the guitar, I would be truly grateful if you could share it with me.

      Thanks for reading this.

Hi there…we have inherited the same guitar as listed above and know very little about it, including value. It is in excellent condition, and for us, too big for us to play…any research or info would be helpful!

          Hi,
I just won an FG 445 on E-Bay, I tried to find info on to help set a max bid but couldn’t find any. I could tell by the pics that it had a dove logo (discontinued in 87 I think) and it had a two piece back with lots of white bindings everywhere (usually reserved for the higher end yamaha guitars). When I got the guitar I was elated that it was in absolutely mint condition (as the Canidian seller said it was). I own an FG 730S and the FG 445 is clearly equal to or better both in quality and sound. I contacted Yamaha by phone this morning and was told that the FG 445 was not marketed in the USA (hence the lack of info). I was informed that there is an Austrailian web site with a lot of Yamaha data but the person could not remember the URL. Can anyone help? Most of the 445s seem to be blue burst in color but mine is red burst. I would think that the value should be about the same as the FG 730S for a player in average condition and possibably somewhat more for really clean "collectable" ones. I wouldn’t sell mine for twice the price because (since it is somewhat rare)it is a great conversation piece when I pull it out for my picking buddies to try and I love playing it. This my third attempt to submit this follow up so if it is a duplicate, please accept my apology.

I purchased my FG445 blue sunburst in 1990 at a guitar shop in Windsor Ontario brand new. paid 345.00 cdn on sale. Is this guitar a solid spruce top?? I think it might be.
            cheers

          Hi,
I just spoke with a Yamaha rep this morning by phone. He told me that the FG 445 was not marketed in the USA (hence the lack of information in the USA) He said there was an Austrilan web site with a lot of Yamaha guitar data but he could not remember the URL (can anyone help) I recently won one at auction on E-Bay (from a Canadian seller). Since there was no data readily available for it, the guitar buyers were a little shy to bid on it and I "stole" it. All I have heard of were Oriental Blue burst but the one I won was Sunset Red burst and is in abslutely perfect condition. I also own an FG 730S and the FG 445 is equal to or better than the 730S in quality and sound. I suspect the value should be somewhere close to the FG 730S for a player and possibably heigher for a collector piece simply because they are difficult to find (at least in the USA). I would’t sell mine for twice the price, I am not a collector but it makes a great conversation piece when I pull it out and let my picking buddies look it over, and I love playing it.

I own the same guitar; mine is a nice blue sunburst, no cutaway. I bought it new in the 1970s. I cannot recall the price, but I was a teenager at the time, so I wouldn’t have been able to afford much over CAD $100.

      1. I have a green and black with lots of white trim. I’m 2nd owner, 1st paid 650 mid nineties. I totally love this guitar and to me it’s worth twice what she paid.

This guitar is definitely not solid spruce. I`m repairing my brother`s red sunburst and am online trying to find out what finish has been applied. Luthier friends have reasonably suggested that for a lower end model like this it is likely that it is a urethane finish. Having repaired a breakout in the top, I can tell you that it is a plywood top.
