Need guitar neck

I am wondering where i can find a genuine gibson explorer neck and pick-ups. I have a LP body with nothing on it and i really want to turn it into an explorer on the LP body. I would love any help or info anyone here can give. thanks

I work for a company called Travellers Worldwide in Knysna, South Africa bringing volunteers from around the world to teach English, drama and music in our township schools.
Over the past few years, we have unearthed an abundance of pure, raw talent from these amazing kids and it has been my objective since, to form a musical workshop to bring out, train and expose these 'naturals'.
Many of these kids, especially the homeless ones, would seldom, if ever, be given any oppurtunities in life and it is my aim to provide a musical skills training workshop, run by volunteers and music pupils from the schools we teach at. In this way we not only develop talents, but have uneducated kids being influenced directly by the school learners themselves. I beleive it is our duty to share whatever we can with those who are not as fortunate and have limited oppurtunities due to their environment.
I have a aquired some sponsorship of used instruments from various organisations like Buskaid and the Jo'burg Philharmonic Orchestra as well of the use of a local recording studio. Some of our local bands like Skanky Corps and musicians like Wendy Dewberry(jazz) and Johan Rautenbach (classical) have agreed to assist in teaching and guidance. We will be hand-crafting as many of the instruments as possible, but obviously approaching companies for sponsored instruments too.
I am desperately seeking sponsorship of instruments, books and building techniques. If you can assist in any way we would be forever grateful.
Kind Regards
Jim Morel

This is a question on how to properly install a locking nut on a guitar neck that was not originaly equipped with one.
The neck is Maple with Rosewood fretboard, brand new from Mighty Might, a Fender Licenced Left handed replacement strat neck, for use on a right handed guitar.

Hi! Is this David Bottomley whom I once jammed with back in Toronto in the early 1980's? I'd greatly appreciate a reply either way. I am trying to find David to say hello and see how music and life is treating him. Jerome :)
I have recently completed my first build. It is an Ash body with a blue stain and laquered. I used Stew-Mac's spray laquer. It looks really good but this stuff seems very brittle. It chips, scratches nd gouges at the slightest touch. Does any body have any advice? Is there another laquer or clear finish I can put on top of it that won't get damaged so easily?
Posted by Michael Payne on Tue, 09/28/2004 - 11:22.
If it is the Nito Lacqure from the spray can, fix the chips and scratches by drop filling, wipe with denatured alcahol on a lint free piece of muslin, coat with a coat of a 100% wax free shallac sanding sealer, this aids the next coats in adhearing to the older finish. Then two coats of a high end nitrocellulos lacqure. Allow at least 10 days for the lacqure to cure. level sand with 600-800-1200-1500-2000 wet dry sand paper lubercated with lightly soaped distiled water of kerosine. Buff starting with light grit polishing compound (Mequire's #9) then polish with polishing compound (Mequire's #7). Usally if a lacqure finish chips, ther was a burn in proble between coats. It is a good Idea to spray a light coat of denatured alcahol and allow to evaporate just prior to each coat of lacqure. This aids in the burn in of each coat.

Twenty years ago when I started instrument making I used a traditional ( single rod in drooped groove with wooden cover strip)truss-rod system.Since then I have used the drooped rod in alloy channel type with sucess. Lately I've gone back to the trad. style and while they work reliably the neck relief also changes with climatic humidity!?
Has anyone an idea of the processes here? Lenghth-wise moisture movement in the ebony fingerboard?

I recently purchased a Stella 4-string, parlor-sized guitar. I'm not sure if it is a bass guitar or not, though. It is 36" in length, with a 21 fret fingerboard, 1-1/4" neck width at the nut. Any light that could be shed on this cool guitar would be appreciated.

Anyone have any experience with the plugging tool STEWMAC.COM sells to repair bridge plates? The tool cuts a hemi-spherical hole in the bridge plate and a second cutter cuts a matching plug from a piece of scrap. You then glue the plug into the hole, redrill the string hole and the repair is "complete". How does this repair affect tone? Long lasting?
