The New Epiphone Valve Special

- Press Release

Valve Series Special: If you’re a vintage tone purist, the Valve Special delivers great value with its Cass A, Single Ended, 5W architecture. It’s designed for the guitarist that appreciates the true vintage tone of its range-mate, the Valve Junior, but needs a little more control. The Valve Special takes flexibility a step further with an additional tone stack, a three band EQ, 10” speaker and larger cabinet.

If you appreciate boutique amps but aren’t afraid to mix it up a little, the Valve Special offers two levels of DSP; 16 Guitar friendly, easy to use selections of chorus, flange and delay and a separate DSP reverb.

This first ever alchemy of vintage design philosophy and modern DSP gives a range of options to every player. At a price that weighs in at a fraction of other low-watt, boutique amps, you’re free to run it raw, or blend in some of its clean, functional DSP-either way it’s a great value for a great amp.

• 5 Watts, Class A
• Single-Ended
• 12AX7, EL84
• 10” Special Design Speaker
• 16 DSP Selections including Delay, Chorus, Tremolo and Flanger
• Separate DSP Reverb with Level Control

Boutique goes Newtique: The Valve Special uses true vintage design philosophies to achieve incredible tone, warmth and responsiveness. Add that to Epiphone’s ongoing mission to deliver the best value in fine instruments and you’ve got an unbeatable combination. And don’t let the 5 watts fool you. The Valve Special is LOUD. Here’s why:

Class A: Simple controls deliver Class A output through a single-ended circuit that responds to your play the way a compact amp is supposed to. Class A amplification delivers constant power from the tube, creating more responsiveness and volume. Keep it at about 3 and you’ll get punchy, clear tone that makes the strings of your guitar feel like they know what you’re going to play before you even hit them. The response is quick and lively. Turn it up to 10 and you get a classic crunch that’s gusty without saturating the harmonics. Kick in the gain control, tweak the 3 band EQ and dial in a variety of saturation levels to fell a wide range of tonal expression in your music.

Single Ended: Single ended amplifiers sound “full”, providing rich, luscious overall tonal coloration with enough clarity to bring out the nuances of your guitar and playing. Part of what we call “volume” is how much of the tonal spectrum is making through to the ear. Fuller delivery of the harmonics being produced deliver more meaningful volume. At lower wattages, they’re coveted for a natural break up when turned to higher volumes, resulting in a creamy distortion that makes modern gain sound sterile and flat.

Durable construction: High quality metalwork, detachable power cable, rugged, musical speaker and a lot of attention to detail make the Valve Special an uncompromised and serious piece of gear. A 5 year warranty backs up our commitment.

16 DSP selections provide a tight range of clean, useful effect selections that can be combined with the separate DSP Reverb. Use both, one or none, depending on what you need. The Valve Special was designed for guitarists to be easy to use, functional, and scaleable as well as a great value. An optional footswitch (part number EPA-FSV) keeps your hands free to make music when you want to turn your effects on and off.

Plug in an 8 ohm extension speaker and open up your sound to another level.
