PRS SE A10E All-Mahogany Acoustic

PRS Guitars introduce the first all-mahogany acoustic guitar in their SE Angelus lineup, the SE A10E.

PRS SE A10E All-Mahogany Acoustic

This new release adds another distinct model to the company’s ever growing acoustic guitar line, it shows that the company is serious in challenging other established makers with their brand of aesthetics and build quality.

Expanding into non-conventional acoustic guitar builds is a sure sign that PRS is going all-out with their acoustics, which means acoustic players will get more and more options.

As expected from all-mahogany body construction, this guitar provides a tamer attack with strong fundamental, resulting in a warm, woody tone that emphasizes the midrange. This punchy midrange makes the A10E ideal easy to fit in a busy mix, be it in live band settings or when recording.

PRS Guitars President Jack Higginbotham said, “The A10E adds a new option to the SE Angelus line at a great price point for players looking to add an affordable, reliable acoustic to their arsenal. All-mahogany acoustics have long been a great tool for musicians. They are known for their straightforward tone, which is perfect for players looking for a guitar that is easy to mic or that will fit well into a mix that is getting a range of tones from other instruments. Have a solo gig in a small to medium-sized club? The strong fundamental that these guitars provide is rich, smooth and full of sustain – perfect for that application and many others.”

The guitar features solid mahogany top, supported by back, sides and neck that complete the all-mahogany design. The body shape follows the Angelus profile and includes a soft cutaway that lets you reach higher frets with minimal effect on elegance. The SE A10E is built using the same proprietary bracing pattern and it carries over some of the construction features of the company’s premium Maryland-made acoustic line.

The guitar’s mahogany neck is topped by a 20-fret rosewood fretboard. It has a scale length of 25.25″ and features bone for the 1.656″ nut and saddle. The company’s trademark bird inlays and distinct headstock design is present as well.

The new SE A10E comes standard with undersaddle electronics that are accessible via the soundhole. Basic volume and tone controls are provided for some tone shaping when plugged in.

Two finish options are currently available: Tortoise Shell with black body binding and white rosette or Black with white body, neck, and headstock binding with white rosette. The guitar comes bundled with a hardshell case.

PRS also explained the naming convention for this particular model, “These models also start a new naming practice for PRS SE Acoustics with “A” designating the 15 1/2” Angelus Cutaway body shape, “10” designating all-mahogany body woods, and “E” denoting that these guitars come with the PRS electronics package (as opposed to the pickup found on SE Angelus Standard and Custom models).
