Ibanez 20th Anniversary basses

Crafted entirely in Japan, the Ibanez 20th Anniversary basses celebrating the groundbreaking SR (“Soundgear”) series will leave the factory with Elixir Strings. The 20th Anniversary models feature a mahogany body with wenge/bubinga neck, Gotoh precision machine heads, and Ibanez’s famous Vari-Mid EQ—which remains the manufacturer’s most popular EQ system for basses—for full bass tone and exceptional versatility.

The 20th Anniversary SR Prestige basses feature Bartolini pickups, customized for the SR line. The Anniversary models also include a “Soundgear” solid die-cast metal badge on the headstock and a backplate with embossed “SR” insignia. The Anniversary models come with a commemorative hardshell case and strap, both embossed with “20th Anniversary SR.”

“We chose to use Elixir Strings for the limited-edition 20th Anniversary Soundgear line of basses because they too are synonymous with prestige and good quality,” explains Pete Chiovarou, Ibanez product specialist. “We use Elixir Strings on most of our high-end basses for the same reason. Some years ago we were looking for strings commensurate with the quality of our basses and, fortunately, contacted Elixir Strings.

“Another reason we use Elixir Strings is because they are very well-priced for how long they last,” Chiovarou adds. “They’re very high-quality strings, and are warm sounding for bass, too. They already have a broken-in sound and seem to last forever.”

“We are honored that Ibanez has chosen Elixir Strings to grace their prestigious 20th Anniversary SR basses,” comments Craig Theorin, Elixir Strings product manager. “Ibanez has long been a highly respected instrument manufacturer, and the SR bass line is just one of many advances they have made for guitar and bass players.”
