Epiphone Tommy Thayer Spaceman Les Paul Limited Edition

Epiphone introduces the limited edition Tommy Thayer Spaceman Les Paul, available in Stage-played or Custom-Autographed packages.

Limited Edition Epiphone Spaceman Les Paul

The guitar has been generating quite a buzz, both because of its cool looks and its controversial “Spaceman” label.

Some old school Kiss fans are arguing against the use of the label “Spaceman”, saying that it should only be used by the original Kiss guitarist. Regardless, Epiphone is happy with the name and is preparing for the release of the affordable production models by introducing this limited edition version.

This limited edition guitar is a replica of the Gibson Silver Sparkle Custom Shop Standard that Thayer has been using onstage with Kiss. It comes in two packages: “Stage-Played” and “Custom-Autographed”.

Purchasing the “Custom Autographed” package will give you a personally autographed limited edition Tommy Thayer Spaceman Les Paul, where in Tommy will autograph the guitar where you want.

To make it more exciting for fans, when you buy the “Stage-Played” package, Tommy Thayer will personally play the instrument onstage at the Kiss concert of your choice before giving it to you. It comes with a one-on-one meet and greet backstage pre-show pass and a photo-op. You can also have Tommy autograph the guitar anywhere you want it. Both packages come with a custom silver TT hard shell guitar case, studded leather TT guitar strap and a signed certificate of authenticity.

The most distinctive feature of the Tommy Thayer Spaceman Les Paul is its silver sparkle top contrasted by its black sides, back, neck, pick guard, pickup rings and toggle ring. The guitar comes with a creme body and neck binding, and it has a 1959 neck profile. The neck is topped by a rosewood fingerboard w/crown inlays. Epiphone equipped the guitar with Gibson 498 pickups, nickel plated bridge and tailpiece, Grover Deluxe ivory tuners and black top-hat knobs.

Here is what Tommy Thayer had to say his Spaceman Les Paul:

“Having my own signature Epiphone Les Paul guitar is something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. When I was a teenage kid back in Portland, Oregon in the ’70s I would look at the Les Pauls at the local guitar shop wall and dream that one day I might have one of my own to play – never fathoming that I’d have my own signature model someday! Being in KISS for over 10 years now has taken me to that place. It’s important for me to put my name on a professional guitar for serious musicians that sounds great, looks amazing and is affordable.”

Thayer demos his signature Epiphone Spaceman Les Paul:

The Premium “Stage-Played” package is priced at $3,000, while the custom autographed version is priced at $1,600. Some online retail stores now have the production model Epiphone Tommy Thayer Spaceman Les Paul Standard available for pre-order, it is priced at $699. 1. Distorted demos worthless!!!

Yo! Kiddies: DO NOT buy any guitar based on a demo that’s all distortion. ANY guitar, from a 10k Custom shop to a $99 POS will sound good on the distortion channel. Maybe one in ten guitar demos stress the clean, ACTUAL sound of the guitar, which is what you’re buying.

    1. Not entirely worthless

I agree with you that a clean demo is important, but a distorted tone demo is also a critical selling point for a guitar like the Spaceman Les Paul which is meant for overdrive/distortion players, and Kiss fans. The best demos though are usually done by actual users. Thankfully, there’s a bit of clean playing on another demo (for Tommy Thayer’s amp): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI1ik8D-ycY
