Expressiv Infinity MIDI Guitar

Rob O’Reilly (ROR) Guitars introduce the Expressiv Infinity, a MIDI guitar with improved latency and control.

Expressiv Infinity MIDI Guitar

ROR Guitars describe it as “the worlds most advanced MIDI guitar system”, combining traditional guitar design with modern tracking for expanded ways to control music.

The idea behind the Expressiv Infinity, is to give guitarists the ability to better control synth and other sound modules with their guitar. While this is already possible via MIDI guitar pickups, this instrument takes it a notch higher by integrating extra control features into the guitar itself.

A quick glance at the ROR Expressiv Infinity and you immediately get a clue that this is not your average guitar. While it does have the usual headstock, neck, and body configuration, along with steel strings and pickups, it definitely is outside the norm with its unconventional body shape and interesting light patterns that make the center of the body look like a deep hollow hole into a different dimension.

Since it has all the elements of a basic electric guitar, it can do basic guitar functions with its two single coil pickups, but it would be quite interesting how it sounds because the pickups are positioned in a way that’s not similar to traditional single coil instruments. There isn’t much mention on the types of used wood, except for the 22-fret fingerboard which is described as having been crafted from maple.

Speaking of the body, the guitar features an interesting addition that should’ve been standard on many guitars today, equal weight distribution. The company was able to achieve this by installing what they call as a Balance Bar, which allows the guitar to hang on your body in a balanced manner.

Still, what makes the Expressive Infinity different is its advanced MIDI control and data transfer abilities. The company boasts of an onboard 16Mhz processor built into the guitar, allowing for plug-and-play operation with any MIDI compatible sound generating module, at fast tracking speeds. The description says that this processor allows the guitar to detect and send musical notes accurately in 100th of a second, which virtually removes any tracking issues.

Other notable features of the Expressive Infinity guitar include:

  • Locking tuners for stable tuning and quicker string change.
  • Matt finish for a smooth playing feel.
  • Onboard trackpad for more control of sound dynamics in realtime.
  • Plug and Play compatibility.
  • And fully polyphonic functionality.
  • Finally, each of this instruments are hand built by ROR Guitars in their Ireland based facility. As a bonus, the guitar comes with a nifty wall hanger so you can show it off to your family and friends. The new Expressive Infinity is now available for pre-order for $1,700, visit ROR Guitars for further details.
