Boss VE-8 Acoustic Singer – Preamp & Effects for Acoustic Guitar

Boss unveils the VE-8 Acoustic Singer, a preamp and effects solution for acoustic guitar wielding singer-songwriters.

Boss VE-8 Acoustic Singer

This pedal combines essential guitar and vocal effects along with looping functionality, all in a portable floor unit. This simplifies what otherwise would be a complicated rig, while still giving you in depth control over your the resulting sound of both your voice and instrument.

The VE-8 showcases the company’s years of experience in guitar, vocal and looper effect building, carrying over the same technology they used on their other pedals and combined them all into a convenient bundle that meets the need of singers who play acoustic guitars.

Interestingly, Boss was able to fit complex audio processing technology into this compact pedal, while maintaining a straightforward set of controls that continues to be the trademark of the company.

The guitar channel of the new Boss VE-8 comes with multiple sound shaping effects, most notable of which is the Acoustic Resonance feature which you can use to reduce the piezo quack of undersaddle pickup equipped acoustic-electric guitars. This results in a fuller more natural sounding acoustic tone. Essential effects like chorus and reverb are available, just remember to apply them subtly for conventional use. Other effects are also included, like the Octave, Mod Delay and many more.

Stage performance tools are also included in the guitar channel, this includes a phase switch and notch filter for solving phase and feedback problems. There’s also a built-in guitar tuner which can be activated and deactivated without much ado.

The mic input goes into the vocal channel which is just as loaded with audio processing and refinement options. There’s an easy to use Enhance feature that quickly adds clarity to a vocal, there’s also four types of ambience effects to choose from. There’s even a feature called “Chromatic pitch correction” which is comparable to auto-tune, it automatically keeps vocals in the right pitch via real-time processing.

In addition to the premium vocal effects, the VE-8 pedal comes with other non-conventional effects including distortion, hard-tuned electronic voice sounds, and even radio voice tones. The VE-8’s Harmony section lets you add natural sounding vocal harmonies to your performance, it does so by detecting the chords and keys that you’re playing on your acoustic.

Another nifty feature of the VE-08 is its 80 seconds of recording time, of which you can control via dedicate a dedicated footswitch. You can loop either the guitar or voice signal, or better yet, loop them both via panel buttons or through an external footswitch.

Connectivity options include a guitar and XLR mic input, with switchable phantom power! There’s also an Aux input for connecting other hardware like smartphones or laptops. Finally, stereo XLR balanced outputs are available which you can connect directly to the house PA. Stereo 1/4″ outputs are also provided for sending a separate signal to stage monitors or acoustic amplifiers.

Common features found on both the vocal and guitar sections include a three-way EQ, low-cut filter for tone shaping, and you can send the two channels to separate outputs for more mixing possibilities.

If that’s not enough, the Boss VE-8 also doubles as a USB Audio interface which lets you capture live and studio performance. It runs on either AC Power or batteries. Pricing information will soon be available, for further details, you can head over to Boss.
