With so many stompboxes for electric guitar, it’s always a breath of fresh air when manufacturers like EHX decide to switch things up a bit and build units that specifically cater to bassists.

According to the company, the Bass Clone is actually a clone of the Small Clone, albeit tweaked in the right frequencies to better complement the sound of bass guitars.

The original Small Stone is the chorus pedal of choice for Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, so it’s popularity is without question. Now EHX is taking its popularity and tone for bassists to enjoy.

EHX describes this pedal as being nearly identical to the original, bearing the same core circuitry with a few twists and mods. With just one glance you’ll notice the big change, which is the pedal’s expanded control options consisting of four knobs and a switch.

The Crossover Switch is an interesting feature, you can use it to cut low end from the modulated signal. This gives allows the low-end to go through unimpeded for improved note definition and articulation while still benefitting from the chorus effect on the mids and high registers.

The Bass Clone’s Treble knob lets you adjust the high frequencies of the entire signal, while the Bass control lets you adjust the dry half. They work in conjunction with the Crossover switch to let you adjust the chorusing tone without messing up your true bottom end. EHX expounds, “together they provide precise sound shaping that lets the player achieve a tight, focused bass guitar sound with a well-defined low end and shimmering chorus on top.

Other essential controls include depth and rate knobs, which let you set the actual character of the chorus effect. Instead of just merele describing the features, check out the demo video of the EHX Bass Clone below:

Other features of the new EHX Bass Clone includes true bypass switching and a 9-volt battery compartment, all wrapped inside a tank tough die-cast housing. For some reason, the pedal does not come with a power supply, so you’ll have to get the optional EHX 9v DC/200mA power supply as an add-on purchase.

The new EHX Bass Clone is now available with a retail price of $90.40. For the complete specifications and other details, you can head over to Electro-Harmonix.
