Wampler Clarksdale Delta Overdrive

Wampler Pedals introduce the Clarksdale Overdrive, the brand’s boutique take on the famous Tube Screamer circuit.

Wampler Clarksdale Overdrive

This classic sounding overdrive pedal comes with Wampler-styled improvements that allow for detailed control over your sound and expanded tonal possibilities.

The Tube Screamer is easily one of the most copied and modified pedals in the market, many guitar gear manufacturers have either cloned the pedal or based their product on the original design. Known for their high-gain distortion stompboxes, it will be interesting how Wampler’s tamer classic overdrive pedal will perform in the market.

The official press release described the story behind the name of this dirt box, “At the crossroads of Highway 61 and Junction 49 lies the official crossroads of Clarksdale, Mississippi—the birthplace of the Delta Blues. This historic town, and the famous music that was created there, is responsible for the inspiration behind this pedal—the Clarksdale Overdrive.

It is said that there have been many requests for Brian Wampler to create a Tube Screamer type pedal, and this is the result. Since they already have a line up of high-gain and crunch friendly pedals, the Clarksdale is meant to reach out to Blues and classic rock players.

The pedal is described as carrying the sound and feel of the original, but as with other Wampler pedals, it comes with more tone shaping options. A notable feature of this pedal is the Lift/ Smooth switch, it will let your tone either sit in the mix with the Smooth setting or allow your leads to standout with the Lift option.

Wampler also improved on the original “green giant” by reducing the “fizz out” that happens when set to low or high gain settings. Finally, Brian added a three knobs for controlling the bass, mid and treble frequencies, for tailor fitting the various frequencies to your preference.

The company summarizes the release by saying, “The Clarksdale has one foot in the past and foot firmly planted in the future. Your Search for the perfect boutique Tube Screamer is finally over”.

Will the new Wampler Clarksdale Overdrive stand out from the crowd or will it just add another speck to the mountain of dirt pedals in the market? You be the judge, you can now preorder the pedal for just under $200. For further details, head over to Wampler Pedals
