Ax Facts and Stats: Thomas Juliano

Welcome once again to another installment of “Ax Facts & Stats”. We are thrilled to bring you Thomas Juliano from Seven Mary Three.

Thomas was kind enough take time out of his busy touring schedule as the support their AWESOME Dis/Location album to answer our usual set, as well as some UN-usual questions. Thanks Thomas!

My name is: Thomas Juliano.

My current job is: Guitar Player for Seven Mary Three. (The guy on the right.)

My hometown: Queens, New York.

My current album or project is: Dis/location.

Former bands: Too Many and too obscure to mention.

My guitar influences growing up were: Jimmy page and Jimi Hendrix. My friends who played guitar were my biggest influences.

The guitars I use are: 1978 Les Paul and a 1976 Les Paul Signature. A Fender Tele I made from parts.

The strings and tunings I use are: D’addario 11s Standard tuning, drop D and open C.

My current rig setup consists of: _Les Paul, Rat pedal, Boss delay, 1978 50W Marshall JMP head 4×12 cab.

The greatest invention for guitars is: The day job

The story behind the band name 7M3: 70’s TV show “Chips”.

My favorite 7M3 solo is: I Don’t really call them solos. I like to approach them like a secondary bridge or melodic development of the original melody.

My favorite 7M3 song is: Lucky

My most embarrassing moment on stage: The other night when I fell flat on my ass in front of a sold out crowd.

Other than my guitar, the one piece of my gear that I cannot live without is: My rat pedal

The first song I ever mastered on guitar: I haven’t mastered one yet.

My first guitar was: A plastic toy. It was white and had four strings. I wish I still had it.

If I am only sure of one thing in life, It’s: I’ll never see that guitar again.

My Greatest fear is: Being asked questions about life.

The exact moment I knew I would pursue a career in music was: When I was first able to play a Led Zeppelin tune.

The best advice I could give beginning guitarists: Listen and learn from a lot of different sources and then find your own voice.

The CD(s) I’m listening to right now: As far as rock guitar goes I love the “Musica de negra” By Verbena. Stone Temple Pilots Greatest hits CD/DVD is amazing. The Foo Fighters have great melodic rock tunes. I also listen to Hank Williams, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.

My best gig was: A small gig in the east village of New York at a place called Sine. There was about forty people in the room.

My favorite junk food: Pudd’in

My biggest pet peeve: I had a pet peeve once. His name was Charlie I forgot to feed him and he died.

The word or catch phrase I say way too often is: supercalafragalisticexpaladotious.

The hardest part of my job: Finding a clean, private place to go to the bathroom when I’m on the road.

The first thing I do when I come home from touring is: Go to the bathroom.

The worst job I ever had: Working for a moving company.

I couldn’t imagine being on the road without: Our crew. Sam Mitcham and Jason Moore. They are the best!

If I wasn’t doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working as: A mason or maybe a carpenter. I like building things.

My favorite movie ever: The Great Escape. You don’t get any cooler than Steve McQueen

My mission in life: To keep making music that is worthwhile.

My greatest obsession: See previous question.

My first band was: Three guitars (no bass) and drums. We thought we were mainstream but we were as punk as they come.

My next major step is: No idea.

The greatest contribution guitars have brought into my life is: Enabled me to make a living and travel.

The coolest toy I had growing up was: the aforementioned toy guitar.
