I would like a 52 style telecaster ( butterscotch blonde ash body, maple neck, kluson winders, black scratch plate , cross head screws , etc). One option is to build one.
The bodies that seem available probably use fairly heavyweight ash and so I have considered using one of the many thinline style bodies ( but routed as for a standard tele ie no f hole ).
Does the thinline style give an inferior or markedly different tone from the standard body and does it have any accoustic unplugged utility? I have heard that thinline bodies are prone to feedback problems.
Thinline bodies do feedback, as a semi accoustic guitar generally do.
On the issue on the 52 style telecaster.I have a Fender 52 usa reissue replacement body in butterscotch,a 52 fender reissue p/up,a texas special neck p/up, and other parts plus a mexican 50’s neck for sale.

FENDER TONE, DANNY GATTON OWNED, LOUIS ELECT. TWIN
Signed & Engraved by Guitar Legend Danny Gatton Item number: 7322920256 DANNY GATTON’S AMP IS BACK & UP FOR GRABS! Sorry folks, I screwed up small time. As a rookie in the Ebay community, I unknowingly posted a couple of web links in my original posting which violated Ebay policy. I sincerely apologize to Ebay and to all of you bidders for wasting your valuable time. Now, let the games begin again. Good luck! – Wallybblue
This Custom ’83 Louis Elect. Co. 80 Watt amp was made by Lou Rosano of Bergenfield NJ. exclusively for GUITAR LEGEND DANNY GATTON. D.G. loved ’59 Narrow Panel Fender Twins. Rosano closely adhered to Leo Fender’s Western Bell Circuit Design except for these measurable upgrades: Stainless Steel Chassis; Ultra-High-Quality Filter Capacitors, Pre Amp Caps & Resistors that GREATLY IMPROVE OVERALL TONE & SONIC QUALITY. Add Custom Design close tolerance, meticulously hand-wound Power & Output Transformers & you have "DANNY’S #1 DREAM A
MP." Rosano & long-time Gatton friend, tech & road partner Jay Monterose of Vintique worked side-by-side to achieve Danny’s Desired Performance Criteria.
Guitarists world-wide overwhelmingly agree that Danny had "The Sound." It took years of modifying dozens of stock amps before The Goal was Finally Achieved with this UNIQUE CUSTOM BUILT AMP. Note: This was Danny’s only back-line amp able to reproduce the lowest note and tones from his "Fred Stuart" built Fender Custom Shop Double Neck Guitar (sporting a 30" Scale "Bajo Sexton" 6 string Bass) at concert stage volume without distortion and muddy bottom end (see photo). Listen to "Blues Newburg" from the Live Album 9/9/1994 to hear the Musicality & Over-The-Top Performance of this Amp.
The amp is in excellent condition. It has 4 Rare oGE 6L6-GC Power Tubes; 3 Mullard/Amperex Pre-Amp tubes; GZ 34 Mullard Rectifier & the ORIGINAL pair of Old EVL Celestion Vintage 30 12" Speakers and was recently serviced by Jay Monterose
Can anyone e-mial me. I am trying to find out what this guitar is worth. It is a 68 original case, strap and guitar are in excellent condition, not mint but excellant. It was my fathers I am doing some research on it. Thanks
Jap Telecaster with humbucker, trem and black neck
James
I am trying to trace a jap Tele made c. 80’s/90’s which was a hybrid and had a piano black finished neck, with a trem and h/s/s/ or h/h pickup configuration.
Tim Bricheno of All About Eve and Sister of Mercy used to use one live.

Well, I think i got what your looking for. about six years ago my bro in law gave me this weird white japanese telecaster. it has 2 pick ups and on humbucker. it also has weird gibson like pick up switches…3 in all inluding mute. However, there are stickers and other s**t all over it.
peace,

Might sound like a silly question but I’m going to look at a Fender Telecaster next week and the owner doesn’t know where it was made or what year is there an easy way to find out?? Also what are the best Tele’s in terms of origin and date of manufacture??
I just bought a 62 reissue telecast over E-Bay. I thought I paid about $400.00 for it. Never bought anything over the net before, I bought it in London England. The silly guitar cost me about a $1000.00 shipping included. Does anyone out there have one or heard of one of these. Did I get my $1000.00 worth in a guitar. It was built between 1985 and 1986 with a gold package.
Thank you,
RD

if it is an american issue, you did alright. if it is a japanese you may have got hurt a little. mexican you got taken.
What you you folks think of the relatively new compensated 3-saddle bridge. I’m using one. I like it’s function and think it really looks great. Any others? Strat man Dwight
I was amazed to see my name under the heading of 64 tele bass. I have a 70 clab body four bolt nect, sunburst like Stings, great maple neck. However I do session work and mostly use one of my five sring fretless basses, also have a 68 Jazz bass body with a 67 p bass neck.
Point being,it is incredible how there could be two bass players with the exact same name.
I am hopefully going to be working with Paul McCartney, just on hold for the next month, just returned from the UK and have been speaking with Pauls concert promoter ,he is here next month for Neil Youngs Bridge concert and hopefully this is where we will do a duet acoustically,we both are guitar players as well.
Wish me luck, riding the coattails of a Beatles is as high as it gets ..

: I was amazed to see my name under the heading of 64 tele bass. I have a 70 slab body four bolt neck, sunburst like Stings, great maple neck. The neck is what makes this such a great bass. It is possibly the thickest of any production bass.I have the original gray bottom pickup, but I use an SCBC single coil pickup.Seymore Duncan maes these and they fit this bass exactly and it is so powerful it makes the bass sound active.. However I do session work and mostly use one of my five sring fretless basses, also have a 68 Jazz bass body with a 67 p bass neck.Had all the frets taken out of the rosewood neck.Weighs a ton,but is very comfortable to play.

It is now mid Feb. I met Paul and had the opportunity to spend two days backstage talking to him about working together. I am tracking now and am going to be sending the tracks with scratch vocals where I would like Paul to sing.
I was an original member of Beatlemania and was fired abruptly. However I still have this Beatles stigma, for better or worse. That is why I am so hell bent on getting Paul to help me out. He gave me the opportunity to get my material to him and I am going through his concert promoter. Getting to a Beatle is next to impossible and I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with him.
He still uses his Hofner for performing. Still has that magic touch. Opened with Drive My Car. Check out the bass line on the intro, the timing with the drums is fantastic.
He also plays with a pick, but still gets a great sound. I am sure there have been some modifications in the amop dept there.
Back to the Fender Tele. In I believe it was late 71 they switched to the THREE BOLT NECK AND HUMBUCKER…They are CRAP…They dont feel or sound right. The Tele I have is exactly the same as the 54 P bass, not any conscious decesion by Fender I am sure.
If you can find a late sixties Tele bass with the FOUR BOLT NECK AND GRAY BOTTOM PICKUP buy it…I think they only came with maple necks ,they play like a bass, feel like and bass and sound like a bass, hence it must BE A BASS…

Sure … all the luck in the World! Say Hi to Sir Paul.
Keep an open mind towards Hofner, Rickenbacker and animal welfare issues. You’ll go far.
P.S. I really miss my 1968 Tele "Sting" Bass, but it’s out there somewhere, working in someone’s hands.
I have a G&L asat, It is clear blue, W/ a hipshot and drop d on it The # on the neck plate is g045709 It has a maple neck , also a three bolt neck, I want to know more about this guitar, Is it made in the USA or elsewear, The year etc… I paid 600 hundred dollars for this, It is in mint shape, All it says on the headstock is G&L asat. Hi there!
I m about to buy a Telecaster and I am quite lost with the different specifications. Through a lot of research I have end up with two models: 1) 52 reissue with light weight ash and Special Texas pickups, and 2) KR custom replica with ash body and TL vintage and Dragster pickups respectively, does anyone know the difference in sound between ash and light weight ash?, any idea about the properties of the different pickups?
A thousand Thanks from a Spanish trying to survive in Tokyo
Hi Kimmo,
Bigsbys are readily available [I think B-5 is the one generally used on teles. I wanted to make a 12 myself, + the best idea I came up with was this: use a standard thru-body screw-saddle bridge, + drill 6 holes in the end so that you have a combo thru/top-loader.

I have been offered a Fender Telecaster for sale. I have noted the serial number from the bridge plate below the "Pat Pend". While Looking at the back of the guitar, I noticed that the neck has "made in Japan on it. This appears to be the only mark which identifies it as being Japanese. There is no evidence on the Headstock, please could someone give me some advice as I am trying to get an accurate price for the guitar. Cheers
! have a black and gold telecaster that was owned by Jerry Reed at one time. with a serial number of 00001. I would like to find more information on it, but don’t know how. would appreciate any comments on it.
I have a Japanese Fender Tele semi hollow with one pick up at the neck position and a bridge pick up on an acoustic bridge. By looking at the serial number, it appears to be a 1985 or 1986. I have been searching for more facts and possibly schematics as the bridge pick up does not work. Any help would be appreciated.
Can someone e me back and let me know if my neck pu for a tele I’m trying to sell is a 68 or earlier? Im told its a 68 but it has cloth leads can anyone help? Thanks E

I need to get an electris quick and chaep so I can play with my kids–there seem to be many hot deasl on used mexican and japanese made teles (plus I’ve always wanted a telecaster) — is ther a general consensus as to whether the japanese made are better than the mexican made? Thanks for your help
I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years and have always had at least one tele. I went into a local guitar store last week and saw one of the nicest classic blonde teles ever. Classic sound too. I put down the $500.00 and took her home. No, it wasn’t made in Fullerton, CA. :Made in Japan" today means "quality product". I intend to keep this tele. : I need to get an electris quick and chaep so I can play with my kids–there seem to be many hot deasl on used mexican and japanese made teles (plus I’ve always wanted a telecaster) — is ther a general consensus as to whether the japanese made are better than the mexican made? The Japanese Fenders I have owned have all been great guitars. I have a Japanese 50s reissue tele that is superior to my American Standard telecaster. So much in fact that I just bought another Japanese tele and will be swapping the A/S pickups into it. Bye, bye American Standard. I haven’t played a Mexican Fender, but I have heard the quality can be inconsistent.

Unfortunately, Made In Mexico Teles are generally rather ho-hum. They are good enough, but not special. On the other hand, I’ve played some Made In Japan Teles that absolutely killed me — just like a $1500 Fender Custom Shop "vintage Tele" item, but at 1/4 the price. Even though I wasn’t exactly planning on it at the time, I now own a couple of such MIJ Teles!
i would like to know more about the Telecaster basses. Do they still make them? Are they hard to find, or are they fairly common? i saw one tonight at a show and i fell in love, and i have never seen or heard one before. i really liked it. It had a p-bass style pickup (one offset above the other) and it had a chrome steel pick guard that wrapped around down and around the knobs. Is this a some sort of custom job, or do they come like this? And i guess i am wondering where i could get my hands on one and for how much…

Yes it sounds like a custom job; the closest thing you could get new is a custom shop reissue of the 51 p-bass. If you get an old tele bass i would go for the single as apposed to the humbucker,(i.e. pre 1970. I have a 69 and it is great….good luck finding one. Also could look into the "sting p-bass reissue" It looks like a p-bass or sunburst tele bass but is very inexpensive (I never played one).

I bought one of the Japanese Sting basses. It is GREAT…The Japanese are as good as the US made Fenders.I dont know why they have to put Stings name on the 12th fret, but they do.It is a reissue of the early 50s p bass.Maple neck, single coil pickup.I modified mine as I had an original p bass gray bottom pickup and had it custom shopped and put in the neck position,so I have a twin single coil tele bass.It makes for a great sound and very versitile.
I think I paid $600. for the bass. Great deal. If you buy one make sure it is made in Japan.I dont know if they make a reisue in Japan of a tele bass without Stings signature on it.Well worth the money and you certainly dont need the extra pickup. It was the fact that the bass was so inexpensive and I had this great pickup, had to use it.Buy the Sting Jap bass. You wont regret it. Big bang for the buck. By the by. They NEVER made a 50s p bass or 60s tele bass with the staggered P bass pickups. That had to have been custom and in my opinion ruins the whole idea of a single coil gray bottom sound.

I am in search of an HMT Telecaster equipped with the standard headstock, two single coil pickups and a humbucker at bridge, must have the rosewood fret board and black paint finished neck. Any condition, any color.
i have a new MIM telecaster. and i want to know what are really good pickups and modifications to make on my guitar to make it a good blues/rock guitar?
Guess I’m the newest members of the Tele appreciation crowd. I had to wait a few weeks, but I just brought home my "new" baby. It’s a beautiful 1968 (yeah, I know it’s a CBS) with natural finish ash body, maple neck and fretboard, white pick-guard and all original hardware (including ashtray) no major dings and minimum wear. The owner bought it new in ’68, died in ’74 and the guitar has been stashed in his widows’s house since then (a true closet classic). I gladly traded in a ’97 G&L ASAT for it (and a bunch of cash).
I’ve been playing guitar for less than three years and have LOTS to learn, but this baby is the perfect compliment to my first guitar, a ’97 PRS CE-22. So now that I’ve got the down-tuned nu-metal thrash thing kind of under control, it’s time to learn all those Roy Buchanan licks I’ve loved since the ’70’s. I’ve also ordered a Mesa/Boogie Single Rectifier Solo 50 head (that should arrive in the next few weeks) to plug into a used 4×12 Celestion cab I scooped last year for $200. All in all, it looks like 2002 is gonna be a pretty good year for an oLdFaRt that’s gonna turn 50 next summer.
There, I just had to tell somebody. Thanks for listening.
Hello,
I was in a guitar shop about 4 years ago and played a telecaster that was designed as a sort of electric-acoustic hybrid. I loved the sound and now I can’t seem to find one or even what it was called. I don’t believe Fender even makes it anymore. The guitar was almost exactly the same as a telecaster. The body was the same (even the width. except there were no visible pickups or F holes. The top was completely flat. The pickups (I presume) were inside the hollow body. The neck was standard electric style, however the strings were 3 steel (E,A,D) and the other 3 nylon (G,B,E). The cost was very reasonable as well ($250-300). If someone could let me know what this is called, and where I might possibly find one again.
: : I am selling a barely played fender hmt on ebay right now, It is very nice and the bid was at only $300 last I checked. Search fender hmt Ends 5-20-02.
: I am looking for a Fender HMT also. Please email me.
I have an HMT also, and would not part with it.
The one I have (only made in 1991) is the model with
dual humbuckers, and a splitter switch. It didn’t
come with the transducer bridge like the Telecoustic
(has a strat type fixed bridge), but is otherwise the
same, including the wide (acoustic width) fret board
and string spacing. I put a Fishman Powerbridge on it,
and string it with steel extra light acoustic strings.
It also only weighs 5-6 pounds.

I own a telecoustic similar to the one that you describe.
When I bought mine in Jan 1998 there were two options available. One which you describe with just the piezo (?) pickup under the bridge, and a second all steel string guitar with the piezo pickup AND a second single coil in the neck position. Damn fine guitars – soory mine’s not for sale! When I bought it it was called a Telecoustic not the type that are avalable now
cheers,
Trev
I read your note about a Telecoustic HMT and would like to know a little more info if you still have it for sale. Can you e-mail any photos? How old is it? What condition? Price?
Thanks,

I have an old Les Paul copi made by "The Pearl Guitar Company" In think, i know a bit, write to me….its about 20 years old.
I got a 50s reissue tele with old style bridge, having intonation problems, does anyone know of any good replacment saddles that will allow me to keep the origanal base plate?? thanks for any help!!
please pass along any information about japanese made telecasters, how long they wrer made there , their quality, differences from american made etc. thanks
hi! lawrence here from Manila. just got a tele, jap made a few days ago. I say its a decent gutar considering that the neck of this one is among the widest/thickest i’ve ever used before. the wood of my guitar i believe contributes to the bright sound, which i really like. So far this is all I could contribute as I’ll be testing the guitar this sunday during our jam session. keep you posted.
i own a japanese made fender 50s reissue telecaster, left handed. It’s a remarkable guitar. so comfortable, and so playable. has a monsterously thick V shaped 50s style neck, fatter than anything i’ve ever played. that’s why i bought the guitar in the first place. as a tele, it’s very comfortable to play. pickups are decent, but i’m going to turn it into a ballsier guitar soon by throwing a humbucker in the bridge position (changing the bridge too), and a new neck single coil. not that the stock pickups suck, they’re good glassy clean pickups, but i just need more balls. made until the very late 90s, when fender japan seemed to fall off the earth, i believe they may have closed. but i absolutely loved the reissue stuff out of japan, i own the tele and an incredible 60s jazzbass from there, wish i could get more :D. email me if you have more questions.
oops messed up. There is a web site that sells new Japanese made Telecasters http://www.ishibashi-music.com/index.html.
I’ve heard good things, but don’t own one myself. BTW cheaper including shipping than a U.S. purchase.
I’m looking to buy a 1985 telecaster which is certainly "seasoned." In fact, I would say the knobs are a little beaten
and the finish is somewhat rough. It was made in Japan (for all I know, they all are or were at that time). Anybody
have a price range which would be reasonable for something like this? (It plays well.) Thanks.
1. i’m about to replace the strap buttons of my American Std Tele with the ‘quick release’ type. b4 i mar the authenticity of this awesome instrument, i hope someone can tell me that there’s actually more to the ‘straplock’ buttons then merely being too small to fit most strap slits.
2. i’m considering replacing the above-mentioned guitar’s neck pickup (too thin/ mild to match its HOT bridge counterpart…) with a seymour duncan STR-2 (hot rythm). does anybody has any comments/ review on this pickup? maybe u can suggest some ther replacements? ps help.

: 1. i’m about to replace the strap buttons of my American Std Tele with the ‘quick release’ type. b4 i mar the authenticity of this awesome instrument, i hope someone can tell me that there’s actually more to the ‘straplock’ buttons then merely being too small to fit most strap slits.

I have a fotoflame tele and replaced the neck p/u with a tapped seymore duncan 1/4 pounder.Very versitile. I put in a push/pull tone pot in. I get a choice of 5 different settings. I love it!

*** Strap buttons:: Use schaler strap locks. They are made to work with original fender strap buttons so you don’t have to change anything. If you notice, just about everybody playing a strat or tele live is using them.
I have a Japanese Fotoflame ’62 reissue Tele with a serial number
that begins with SO and 5 digits. The # is on the back base of
the neck under the "Made in Japan" script. Can anyone tell me
when it was made?
Thanks.

Oops. Your tele was made between 1994 and 1995. Mine was too although it starts with a "T". I found the info at Fenders site last March ’00. http://www.fender.com/e/dxdaterapx.html
Nice guitars huh? I rewired mine with shielded cable and put copper foil in all the cavities. You can put it right next to a computer monitor and it still doesn’t hum. Great guitar for recording digitally. Another mod was to put a 5 position switch in place of the stock 3 position. This gives me the standard positions as well as a series position and one thats in parallel and out of phase.

my man Rus,
i have here a copy of Total Guitar mag featuring yr fotoflame tele. the article itself was dated March 1996, we can therefore infer that yr baby was made around that year. strangely the article itself didn’t say which year it was made… :-/
The book The Fender Telecaster has every thing you need to know it is written by A.R. Duchossoir and is available from any Fender Dealer or can be order from any good bookstore
i am from mexico city and i have a telecaster that was made with another 299 for a total of 300, i would like if you can send some information of this guitar, sorry about my english. Thank you
If you know where a 1964 Tele Bass is…it would be a True Miracle…since Fender didn’t
make any Tele basses…the first Tele Bass model that I can recall….I think was 1968…single
coil pick-up…and kinda looked like The original P-Bass…1951-1956…I know…I have a 1956
Tele looking Precision Bass…sunburst..contoured body..too too cool….I also have a 1964 P-Bass.
Send me a pic of that unicorn Tele Bass….hahah…peace..out…manny

I have a tele bass. The serial number indicates it to be 1966. However. They did not even make a proto type until 1967. They went into production in 1968. They put old neck plates on arbitrarily. Mine is all original sunburst. Single coil gray bottom pickup. It says on the neck 1971. It appears to have one of the earliest bodies. But the neck is 1971. The thing that my bass has that no other I know of is it has not been refinished. All original electronics as well. Only thing I replaced was the pickguard. It is worth about $2000. from what I glean from everyone.

I’m looking for a vintage Hofner bass (right handed)from 1956-1959
looking to buy a MIJ acoustic/electric tele, of the late nineties variety. thanks, ~tim
Any comments?
Thinline bodies do feedback, as a semi accoustic guitar generally do.
On the issue on the 52 style telecaster.I have a Fender 52 usa reissue replacement body in butterscotch,a 52 fender reissue p/up,a texas special neck p/up, and other parts plus a mexican 50’s neck for sale.

This popular thread has been given its own page : Danny Gattons #1 amp on e bay
It has 4 Rare oGE 6L6-GC Power Tubes; 3 Mullard/Amperex Pre-Amp tubes; GZ 34 Mullard Rectifier & the ORIGINAL pair of Old EVL Celestion Vintage 30 12" Speakers and was recently serviced by Jay Monterose
wood?> what kind is it? fender, left handed either an american standered or a deluxe, not sure
Can anyone e-mial me. I am trying to find out what this guitar is worth. It is a 68 original case, strap and guitar are in excellent condition, not mint but excellant. It was my fathers I am doing some research on it. Thanks
I am trying to trace a jap Tele made c. 80’s/90’s which was a hybrid and had a piano black finished neck, with a trem and h/s/s/ or h/h pickup configuration.
Tim Bricheno of All About Eve and Sister of Mercy used to use one live.
Any ideas?

Thank you,
RD

What you you folks think of the relatively new compensated 3-saddle bridge. I’m using one. I like it’s function and think it really looks great. Any others? Strat man Dwight
Anybody know does Sheryl Crow really play the guitar on stage, or is it just for show?. I have 2 Teles, both made in Japan, year 2000.
Nice site. Amy
Sheryl Crow is extremely talented. Learn from Her.

Hello.
I’m desperately looking for the following for my Telecasters:
12-string bridge
Bigsby vibrato
Could you please help me find these.

Hi Kimmo,
Bigsbys are readily available [I think B-5 is the one generally used on teles.

Helo, can you give me information about the japanese guitar barrington bgw400?thanks.

i would like to know more about the Telecaster basses.

Howdy y’all,
Guess I’m the newest members of the Tele appreciation crowd.

Thank You
John R. Baude

: I have a Fender HMT for sale now. It is a little different than the one you described. It is the accoustic/electric made in Japan with 1 humbucker and 1 piezo(I think?) pickup and a Floyd Rose tremelo. Its a very rare guitar, made in early ’90’s. Great sounding unique guitar. E-mail me if you are interested in more info, pictures, and price.

When I bought it it was called a Telecoustic not the type that are avalable now
cheers,

Have original telecaster (1951 I believe) not in original case, to sell, any idea what it is worth?

if it is indeed a ’51 and original – pickups, finish ect. somewhere in 10-15,000 range
hi all,
i hope someone can enlighten me on the following:
1. i’m about to replace the strap buttons of my American Std Tele with the ‘quick release’ type. b4 i mar the authenticity of this awesome instrument, i hope someone can tell me that there’s actually more to the ‘straplock’ buttons then merely being too small to fit most strap slits.
2. i’m considering replacing the above-mentioned guitar’s neck pickup (too thin/ mild to match its HOT bridge counterpart…) with a seymour duncan STR-2 (hot rythm). does anybody has any comments/ review on this pickup? maybe u can suggest some ther replacements? ps help.
kudos

This gives me the standard positions as well as a series position and one thats in parallel and out of phase.

my man Rus,
i have here a copy of Total Guitar mag featuring yr fotoflame tele. the article itself was dated March 1996, we can therefore infer that yr baby was made around that year. strangely the article itself didn’t say which year it was made… :-/
stay cool.
