John McLaughlin Web

In my estimation, the best living guitar player. This is one of the only webs for JM on the whole net, go figure you would think there would be jillions of them.

: Anybody seen charts for these great sessions?
: I’d settle for seeing a couple of chords!

I think "In A Silent Way" is just one chord (e minor). As I read in an interview with John McLaughlin, Miles Davis pointed out this chord to him and then just said: Now you know the chord! BTW, McLaughlin played an accoustic Gibson Hummingbird with DeArmond pickup on this session.

It sounds E major to me. I think they mostly use ionian mode (E major scale), and mixolydian mode (equals to A major scale, or E major with b7 = d) when McLaughlin plays "f# e d e". But I’m not sure about those modes, I haven’t studied jazz music enough, yet. I am just a selftaught guitar player…

  2. I would love to get my head round the geniuses runs, lines, licks etc but can’t read music and its too fast for me to pick it off CDs etc so I’m looking forward to gettin some TAB here.
