Cort Neck Through

: hello, i just had a cort given to me and know nothing about guitars. i know it has had stuff added on to it and have just learned that it is a neck through. if anyone could tell me what model it is, what has been added on to it, how old it is and how much u think i could get out of it to sell it, e-mail me at: [email protected]

Hi,

Model: I can't help you with the name of this model (I would like to, since I own a bass guitar version of the same).
State: I have seen this model by Cort before, and it looks pretty standard to me, except the logo on the body (duh!) and the pickups. Originally this guitar was equipped with ivory-coloured passive "powersound" pickups. (Check for a rectangular spot halfway between the pickups where the wood seems lighter. This is where they stuck a "Equipped with Powersound pickups" sticker :-)

Tips: Be very careful with the mini pickup selector switch: This part is easy to bread and hard to find, even at specialised electronics shops (in the pre-internet age anyway). Also hard to install.

Age: Unknown, but seen one second hand in '96, and since it shares a lot of characteristics with the Cort-45 it can be from as early as 1986.

Value: Second hand in 1996: around $150 (sorry).

On the other hand: you have a neck-trough-body guitar, made with some very pretty woods and a since design: try getting those specs at a reasonable price nowadays.

My advice: not a "seller" but a "keeper". I have doubled a Paul Reed Smith solo line with my stanard Cort 45 and guess what : The Cort sounded "fatter" and "sweeter" (same settings, same amp). Price difference over 10 times.
