There is no official record of the name Squier existing during the 70's and there are conflicting histories as to whether it began in 1980 or 1982. Squier just celebrated their 20th ann. in 2002. But I can identify with your request and have owned Squier Stratocasters from the 70's, some of which didn't say where they were made. At least one was MIJ (Japan). I currently have a 1979 Squier 11 Strat made in Korea, with the subline "by Fender". It is of excellent quality, such as the Japanese models by Nippon Gakki and other examples by Cort. I suppose Fender would deny having anything to do with it. Strat Man Dwight
