Unless he has eyes in his backside, I can actually believe Rooney when he said he had no idea where his foot was landing. Ironically, if he had flumped on the floor (preferably landing his hands on the ball – notice how many players do that to force a free kick their way?) instead of scrambling and tugging to stay in possession, the decision would’ve probably gone his way. Once the foot connected, though, he was in trouble. He didn’t help himself by giving C.R. a mighty push, either.
TBF, I don’t remember CR rolling around – certainly not like Diego Simeone did in ’98 when tapped by Beckham. Henry complained about the Barca players telling the ref to send off Lehmann in the Champions League final. But that’s fair enough, seeing as the ref blew too early and thus disallowed their goal – I’d want the sending off to compensate. And this is the same Henry who clutches his face in the area pretending to have been elbowed in the face.
Maserati (or whatever he’s called) limply said he was “not cultured enough to know what an Islamic terrorist is” – yeah, right. It’s true that some of the teams in Europe say things on the pitch that are prehistoric by our standards, but Zizou was still an idiot. Still, out of all the French and Italian penalty takers, not one goalkeeper’s glove touched the ball except to pick it out of the net.
Before the tournament started, I described to a schoolkid Sven’s choice of strikers. “A crock coming back from injury. A crock who might not recover from injury. A lanky beanpole who can’t hit a barn door (I was wrong there) and a kid that’s never played.”
Walcott was Wenger’s little joke that Sven fell for. As soon as Rooney looked fit, why wasn’t the kid sent home instead of Defoe? I don’t think Theo was done any favours by being kept as a passenger all fortnight, and it certainly didn’t work for the team.

The whole world cup was a bit of a let down, there was’nt any real shining teams, Brazil played well but they have played a hell of a lot better, we had high hopes of the Argies, but they fizzled out, England were pretty hopeless, but there was an excpectancy this time around.
In the end no Rooney (2 match ban) Beckham (injury) and Owen (injury) kind of sealed our fate.
True, stamping on someones nuts is a no no, and deserved a sending off, but having your domestic football team-mate come up to you and give you an in the face telling off in the heat of the moment, and then making a meal of the ‘he pushed me over’ stunt, rolling around, getting up and walking over to his bench with the Sssh gesture and a wink is underhanded cheating, as backed up by his many subsequent dives in the box. That is why he will get booed in England at the start of the new season.
Anybody know what the Italian said to Zidane before the headbutt? a lip reader got on to it and translated it as ‘you are the son of a terrorist whore’ , and she had gone in to hospital 2 hours before the start of the match, no excuses but it was a lot different to Rooneys sending of, his was just imature temper tantrum, Zidane still wont say exactly what was said.Racism in football… FIFA are giving team captains anti-racism statements to read at the begining of each match, why is it, i have never seen a black player playing for Italy? i cant ever recall seeing one? probably been a couple, I know most of the Eastern European countries are all white, but they have had little time to integrate, but Italy have had 2000 years to integrate, all i ever see playing for them are black hair olive skinned mediteranians with very Italian sounding names.
Same of course goes for Spain, France seem to have integrated but the country does show a lot of intollerance and racism, but they do have black players, cant be the old historic colonialism, because Spain and Italy were once top of the table.
Any answers?Oh and i see we (England) did well at Wimbledon this year, and Scotland didnt fair much better, i wonder how much of my BBC license fee goes on televising this rubbish, isnt it about time we gave up on Tennis and diverted the cash towards Premiership football TV rights?.

Well, Mrs Bass collects a fair bit from choosing a losing finalist. In my works sweep, it was “winner takes all” so I don’t see a sniff.
Surprising, isn’t it, that English terraces will boringly reverberate to “C. Ronaldo, he’s a winker, he’s a winker” all season (except at Arsenal, where they’ll just whistle and boo because nobody can bother to learn the words). By contrast, Zizou gets a presidential clap on the shoulder to compensate for some pesky official actually noticing a full-tilt headbutt and sending him off.
I think English types are overdoing the “Ronaldo cost us the World Cup” argument. England were rubbish and, not for the first time, were beaten as soon as a moderately decent side faced them. A foot in the bollox often causes offence.

Anybody have a good closeup of Ronaldo blubbing? i looked for a one last night but couldnt get a good boohooing shot, i want to use it for my wallpaper on the PC and it may also replace my Stones avatar!!
Crime never pays, and Cheaters never prosper, in my eyes he is up there with the God of cheaters, Maradonna.
His dives in the box last night would have been truely stomach churning if they had’nt had a great deal of comic value in the replays, classic stuff. -

Allez les vieux!
On the workplace sweep, I pulled out Brazil + Portugal. I wasn’t backing the paraplegic Portuguese even so. Excellent tactics, though:
1) Approach box
2) Fall over
3) Wave imaginary card in ref’s direction and point at penalty spot
4) Lose. -

Ive predicted most of the last 16 incorrectly, so im going with the Italians, which means the French will probably nick it.
