Ibanez and Joe Satriani tean up once more to create another a new acoustic built to Joe’s specs – the JSA20.
The JSA 20 combines Ibanez’ renowned playability with traditional wood combination and aesthetics.
This new acoustic guitar comes with a JSA shape body, which is the shape that Joe Satriani co-designed for all his signature acoustics with Ibanez. It has a sharp cutaway that allows for convenient upper fret access.
At the core of this acoustic are traditional tonewoods, a solid Engelmann spruce top with solid Rosewood back and sides. Engelmann spruce is a highly favored top because of its quick response, resonance and great looks. The Rosewood back and sides also help in the tone department while providing a solid and beautiful looking support for the top.
The neck of the guitar is made of mahogany topped by an ebony fretboard, this is where the JSA20 series stands out from other acoustics. It has a scale length of 651mm and has a thin profile that electric guitar players will find familiar. Satriani himself said that the JSA20 is designed as a comfortable acoustic for those that are more familiar with electric guitars.
To capture the sound of this acoustic, the guitar comes with a Fishman Acoustic Matrix pickp and a Fishman Aura Pro preamp. This preamp comes with a nifty tuner and comes with “modeled” acoustic guitar tones. The default preset on the preamp is made by Joe Satriani himself.
Other features of the guitar include Tusq nut and saddle, Ibanez advantage bridge pins, ebony bridge and chrome grover tuners. Rounding off the features of this guitar are visual embellishments which includes a Satriani approved vintage burst finish, abalone rosette and abalone binding.
The Ibanez JSA20 is currently retailing for around $1680. It is part of a batch of new instruments recently released by Ibanez. For more information, you can head over to Ibanez.
